Here we go, I can't run from this problem

I'm new to this, they haven't even diagnosed me yet but one thing is for sure, I had, up until 4 weeks ago beautiful, thick and curly hair. I've lost more then half all over and now I'm noticing thinning spots around my temples and the rest of my hair line. And what's scary is I'm watching it get thinner and thinner. It's fast man. My hair is everything to me, to me it makes me. After a slew of blood tests, and tons of questions my dermatologist is very curious about me and my symptoms. I've…

So it seems this isn't going away.

My name is Jennifer. My daughter Madison is a happy, joyful, beautiful 5 year old. Right at the end of October, while washing her hair, I noticed two small bald spots, just about the size of erasers. My first though was, maybe it was fungal. We had had a bought of ringworm the month before. But, after using fungal cream for a week, it was getting worse. So off we went to the pediatrician. The doctor looked at it and said almost immediately that it was alopecia. I had that word floating in my…

Back in time for Christmas, the unwanted gift of alopecia

Where is the gift receipt?!

My alopecia has been in hiding for a while now, which gave me enough time to form a relationship. Now, 9 months into said relationship, I have the familiar signs that she's back to play. I don't know how to tell my gf that I'm loosing my hair. She knows in the past it happened, but she doesn't understand it. I don't think she realizes what a monster I become once me and Josie (my wig) have to start hanging out together again.

No idea how to tell her…

Second post

Hello everyone. First off, thanks to you all who commented on my first post. I went away on vacation and saw a bunch of family, including many young nieces and nephews. While it was fun, I kept thinking over and over how this will be the last time anyone on my husband's side of the family will see me with my natural hair. The little girls loved playing with my hair and I was just so nervous about them making a comment about my growing bald spots. Thankfully they did not. But ack.. why do I…

New member saying hello to you all

Hello everyone. I just found and joined this site last night. First, I wanted to say that I am grateful this site exists. I stumbled upon it when I was looking for information on how to exercise in a wig. It looks like an amazing community and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Second, a little about me. I am in my mid-30s and was diagnosed last year with scarring alopecia. When that diagnosis came in April, it was like my whole life felt shattered. I had been worried about…

My new wig is fabulous! :)

Well, I must say that I'm loving my new wig. My cousin went with me to pick one out at the beauty supply. I'm not really a "bangs" type of girl, but she asked me to try one on with auburn highlights and a "swoop" bang. I actually loved it! The nice thing about wearing wigs is that you don't have to worry about styling your hair...you just go with the flow...what sucks is what is underneath...I've been battling alopecia for the past 4 years. I manage to get it into remission for a while, and…

Finally a place to talk about "this"

I love the fact that there is a blog for me on this site. Although I know I may loose interest in it eventually since that's how I am.

Today is not a good day. It is the first bad one I have had in 3 weeks since my last panic attack. Up until that point I was having panic attacks every day for almost a month. I had a slight feeling of panic this morning. I am not sure what brought it on. Then I stupidly looked at my hair in the mirror while still a bit wet and unstyled and went into…

Regrowth anyone?

Hi Everyone,

I have been experiencing hairloss which they are calling Diffuse Alopecia Areata and it is severe. It began with severe itchyness which lead me to finding a spot on the back of my head sometime in March. Shortly after that my hair began to fall out all over my head. Actally I'm not sure if it fell out or broke off, I never really seemed to have "bald" spots. It did spread to my pubic area, my underarms, and my eyebrows became a little spotty. I evenually had to shave my… Continue

Not again...please, not again

Things have been going so well. All the hair has grown back in my bald spots over the past few months with the help of cortisone injections and a tapered oral prednisone treatment. I'm all the way down to 5mg prednisone every other day. I have a derm appointment on Friday and I really thought it would be my last for a long time.

But yesterday, I looked at one of my former bald spots, just to check out the regrowth. . . and I'm pretty sure I've discovered a new spot :.(. I can't… Continue

Grateful

In four days I will be leaving from Ontario, Canada to go to Nebaj, Guatemala on a mission trip. I may sound like some crazy religious person but I won't lie when I say it is God's will that I am going there. Ever since I felt I wanted to go, everything has fallen into place and I feel compelled - I have to do this! What made me want to post though was the fact that some of us with alopecia (especially newbies) are so absorbed with our hairloss and changing image that we tend to lose focus on… Continue

New Year's resolutions

Time for a change or affirmation of your positive traits? New year's Resolution time coming up! I used to tear up the ending-year's calendar into tiny bits, then toss them up as confetti at midnight when ushering in a new year...when I wanted to GET RID OF a bad year, mentally. Nowadays, I have more calendar entries I DO want to keep...but it is an idea that may fit some of you.

My resolutions include being open to mystery and spirituality, taking control of my OWN life (not lives of… Continue

It's a new day...to be continued

This is going to be a farely short blog...for now. I have to be in class in 20 minutes, but I had an epiphany as I was getting dressed this morning. People stare at me all day long, so why not give them something to look at? I typically am a 'plain Jane.' I don't really like to stand out. Instead of being stared at looking 'average' (whatever that is), I decided today that I am going to look the best I can every day. Instead of 'hey, look at that bald girl,' maybe it will go more like 'hey look… Continue

Virgin Blogger - be gentle!

Hi Guys

I found this site through twitter and thought I'd give it a go. Friends/family are understanding to a point, but noone will truly be able to know what you are going through unless they have been through itthemselves - hence why I am here.

It's actually painfully ironic - as a child I had trichotillamania - I pulled out my own hair and had to wear a wig when I was 8 years old. As I got older, my confidence grew, I had good friends, so by the time I got to college I… Continue

New to AA - Do You Hate Showering Now?

OK, this is probably my first attempt at humor (good or bad) since I've come to find out about my AA (more info in my profile).

Showering used to be a fun activity for me. Not the same kind of fun like dinner out with my wife, a round of golf, or anything like that. But at minimum, it was enjoyable...refreshing. Either first thing in the morning to wake my happy arse up and get ready for the day, or sometime during the evening after a long, stressful day.

Now???? Man oh… Continue

What's Your Journey?

Hello everyone. I'm new to Alopecia World, and not surprisingly, the world of alopecia. As my profile mentions, it all started about 5-6 weeks ago with 3 patches. Over the course of those weeks, those original 3 grew bigger and coalesced into larger ones. Additionally, got 3-4 new patches since. This was all SO sudden and took me by surprise. I definitely wasn't ready to deal with hair loss issues. As far as I knew, male pattern baldness didn't run in my family. I've always had VERY thick hair… Continue

Glad To Be Here

Hi, My name's JOSH.

I just want to start by saying this website truly is wonderful. I don't know why I never joined Alopeciaworld.com before. It's like Facebook or Myspace for bald people! (only I think this is a little cooler) I've been a member for less than 24 hours and many of you (whom I have never met) have welcomed me, and I can't tell you how much that means. The close-knit community that alopeciaworld seems to promote is very cool and once again I'd like to state how much…

Biopsy Day / Life Update

Hi everyone!

So today I had my scalp biopsy. I went in fearing how badly the procedure would hurt. My mom went in afraid of how much hair they would remove. Frankly, I didn't give a flying fig about that, just as long as I can get an answer as to what type of hair loss I have. (They only took about 5 - 7 hairs from the root, and it didn't hurt at all!)

The doctor who performed my biopsy examined my hair loss and told me right off the bat that I don't have Alopecia Areata or Totalis or… Continue

Super Excitement!!

I know I know I haven't been around a lot lately ... I'm going to make an honest effort to try harder in 2009. I'm SO SO excited for this new year - I feel energized. Plus I'm ready to reveal my exciting stuff.... *drum roll*. I have convinced my husband to really dedicate to weight loss *claps*. In fact we've even started a youtube channel that will track our progress. I'm thrilled that he's agreed to this, because making a public announcement of your goals is proven to increase success rate.… Continue
