Kids donating hair

Its the giving season and you can truly see how kids love to give with a happy heart. In January, I want to organize kids at our school to grow hair for children who need wigs.Spring is the best season to grow hair apparently.Does anyone have information on this, ex how long it takes and how to care for hair.I am thinking of giving kids little incentives for each inch, hair bands, accessories then find volunteer hairdressers to cut and style their hair at the end. Maybe get their nails done and…See More

Supermom replied to Aimee's discussion Does anybody have eye issues, too?
"Yeah, my eyes are really red sometimes. I went to the eye doctor and she seemed to think they were just dry. Maybe mine is from my synthetic wig, bangs get in my eyes, my lashes used to stop that I guess. Happy Thanksgiving to all you down south."

Joke shows all around acceptance but I'm itchy

Posted on July 23, 2008 at 8:52pm 2 Comments

[So my son (11) comes up to me and says, "Mom, if your were a bird, what kind of bird would you be?

I thought " What a thoughtful question, great to start a conversation. "Well son, I think...."

'You'd be a bald eagle!" Then he ran away as I playfully tried to punch him.Smartass.

I'm so itchy its driving me crazy!!!! If I where my hot heavy wig I get a headache and my head itches. If i wear a hat, it itches. I have accepted my hair is leaving but What the heck!!!! My hair… Continue

Hi, I have an eyebrow question, and you seem like eyebrow expert ;) I'm debating getting my eyebrows tattoos touched up at the 6-week mark. One is arched, and one is more linear. One is shorter, too. But, NOBODY else notices. I can tell when somebody is looking at me like something is not quite right, and I am the only one who notices the discrepancy.

What would happen during a touch-up? I assume she'd add more ink to both sides, to make thicker brows? I'm tempted to skip the 6-week touch-up, let them fade, and then in about one year, make absolute sure that I am happy with the penciled in version before letting her start the actual tattooing. I think I was just so excited to get it done, I wasn't picky enough about having it be perfect. Thanks for any advice!

Hi there,
I am in Vancouver (kitsilano) - i haven't called yet, as I'm traveling a lot in April - once I'm back after the 20th, I was going to call to find out more about the support class. I'm one year bald & thought I was doing just great, but, I think I need a little more support! No shame in that....I will be happy to let you know when I find out more about it. I DO know that it's close to the hospital (VGH) in around that area at a hair loss clinic. I went there once to see a Dr. Shapiro - decided against his chemical treatments, but am definitely interested in the group. Feel free to message me any time...

Hi Supermom!
Thanks for the message! It was so nice! That's great that you went to UVic...I love it here. I bet it's grown and changed a lot from when you were here. There's lots of construction going on around campus. It's such a great city to live in. It's nice to meet people from BC. Having alopecia at this age has been a challenge, but i wouldn't change it for the world. It's definitely shown my what's really important in life and changed me for the better. I'm sorry to hear that all your hair is coming out. Keeping busy is definitely the way to avoid dwelling on it, but it's always hard. Sounds like you have an awesome family! I have three siblings...big families are the best! Talk to you soon :)

Yes it is less expensive here for clothes just gotta find the right stores. When I was trying to hide my spots I would use a head band or fancy scarf that wrapped around my hair. He is the website I get my head scarves from-www.headcovers.com. Those are the only things I put on my head. They got pretty decent hats and ship very fast. Never had a problem with them. Hope u have fun this weekend:)
