I lost hair to alopecia at the age of 9 and have been wearing wigs for about 5 years now.
After meeting with many doctors and specialist after specialist, my mother realized that my hair loss was not as temporary as she first thought and purchased my first wig.
This was a synthetic net-based product simply purchased from a store and I found it itchy and uncomfortable, in no time al all it was looking dull and very 'wiggy'.
I began wearing a suction based product that was the best available at the time. It gave me back the lifestyle I had missed, I could play as a normal child, took up netball, squash, horse riding and swimming. Whilst it felt secure, and so gave me confidence,
Around 2 years ago I was introduced to a wig that changed my life. Finally a soft base that was comfortable, and fine implantation that looked so real. My self-esteem soared, for the first time I was proud of my hair, and I could have it coloured and cut like everyone else. It was so undetectable that even close friends, and boyfriends didn't know until I told them.
It was only 2 years ago that I began to be more open about my hair loss.

Thanks, Alison! I love it so far, even though I can't wear it yet (bangs down to the chin!!) In less than 224 hours I should have a wig I can wear! Thanks for your help and support! I will post photos! I am so excited, I feel like a kid!
yo! nah i just got like super thin hair n gettin thinner, just sucks cuz i seem to b the only person in my school with that problem, and well i havent tried anything for now im just buzzin my hair real short, but i know that in the future if i wanna c hair ill probably have to wear a hair piece, how do u cope with ur hair? u seem real happy in ur pics australia looks like a real fun place, whatsup with the kangaroos?
yeah i've arrived at that state of mind over the last year or so- haven't really tried any natural medicines- i've been on prednisolone (which totally screwed up my body) and dcp which i couldn't stand. So i'm taking time out at. I've been diagnosed with an anxiety depression as well, this was before i lost my all my hair. Anxiety depression actually runs in the family- my doctor thinks that my anxiety has contributed to my alopecia...but not caused it.
can i ask were you get your wigs from??
I think it's great to be open....once I got passed it, I found it easier to talk about it and be honest rather than trying to hide it....which it what I spent two years doing when it was really bad...by the end of it I was exhausted- it was a massive relief to finally just open up! It's wonderful you have a supportive boyfriend :-) what treatments have you tried?? :-)
