Your presence may mean far more than you think

Recently, a mother whose beautiful young daughter has alopecia said to me, "I always tell my daughter that you are her twin. I tell her when she grows up, she's going to look like you."

The emotions that statement elicited in me were very strong: I was honored and extremely humbled.

Our reach as alopecians is far beyond us. We may be just living our lives and, at the same time, encouraging a neighbor, a person on our morning commute, or perhaps someone we least…

How to step up to happiness

I recently came across this poem and it just spoke to me, so I thought I would share it with you.

Stepping up to Happiness

Everybody Knows ~

You cannot be all things to all people

You cannot do all things at once

You cannot do things equally well

You cannot do things better than everyone else

Your humanity is showing just like everyone else’s.

So ~

You must find who you are and be…

Prayer for Success Aug 19

Father, I behold You in all of your majestic glory and the awesomeness of Your name, I AM that I AM. It is in the power of Your Spirit, I am able to do and become all You envisioned. It is in the power of Your Spirit I am able to reach beyond myself to help others become all You envisioned as well. Amen

Using my head

Last week I was grocery shopping and, when I went to check out, a woman approached me to say she thought I was beautiful and that she wished she could do what I do. She went on to explain that she lost most of her hair due to alopecia. I told her I was familiar with alopecia and, in fact, have it myself. She was fearful of what others might say if they knew about her condition, but she really liked my look.

She was wearing a wig and said she normally wears one, so I suggested she…

Where I am today is where many of you will be tomorrow

Occasionally I receive an email from someone saying that they wished they had my strength to handle alopecia -- as if I woke up one day without my hair and was immediately ok with it. As most members here would attest, that is hardly ever the case. Where I am today is probably where many of you will be tomorrow.

I wrote the following in response to one such email and thought that other members that are new to alopecia or struggling may benefit from it too:

You would be…

Encouragement to some special friends

To all my friends here on AW, but a special shout out to Kimberly & Trish...because we started this journey together, and we are in this together. I just wanted to send special encouragement.

So many others I could mention, I love you all! I hope that you can view the song here, cause I don't know how to post it to my music section :( Thanks to you ALL.

I am hoping you can open the link from here to hear the words.… Continue

Feeling discouraged :-(

I don't really know what all I want to say. I just hope I articulate myself well enough. Lately I feel like I say all sorts of things, but its all jumbled up in my head. It makes sense to me when I say it, but not necessarily to others around me who hear it.

I only have one other blog post on here and its about my fingernails. I tried biotin for a few months and I didn't see a change so I stopped it. I actually had one thumbnail reverse itself on its own, but within 2 months it was… Continue

You really are amazing!

Alopecia World inspires far more people than those living with various types of alopecia.

I think about this every time I am approached by a non-alopecian who not only recommended the site to someone struggling with hair loss, but who also regularly visits AlopeciaWorld.com because they are deeply moved by what they see and learn from our beloved community.

Trust me -- I know the feeling.

As the husband of the alopecic and adorable co-founder of Alopecia World, Cheryl…

Pondering on the last 6 months

Yesterday marked 6 months since we started Alopecia World and although we had a vision for it, I never knew it would be SO amazing.

I look at the photos, videos, advice giving and it is unbelievable how much all of you have inputted and shared your lives with Alopecia World.

I watch adults showing their spots or lack of eyebrows, all to which the outside world they may hide. I watch women happily upload photos of them with a new wig, eyebrow tattoos or post their first… Continue
