Hi! I am not the one with Alopecia it is my 13 yr. old daughter. This started several months ago, and now it has worked its way from the back of her head to the side and has several bald patches all around her head now. She see's a dermatoligist every 3 weeks for shots, but it is falling out really bad now and she has started to see the bald spots in the front. My heart breaks for her.
I do my best to act calm and not nervous, but I am. I need to find her a support group of her age range????
Hello and welcome, Heidy!

I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women and girls were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Hello again Heidy and Marissa!
Hope you both can have a fun, relaxing weekend.
Looks like you're finding help and advice here with friends and some AW groups....that's great. Being in LA you and Jennifer can "join forces" and start an in-town support group -what a blessing!
Take care and glad you are here.

Hello Heidy and welcome.
You will find tons of support here.
On this page in the upper R hand corner above your name is a grey rectangle (GROUPS) - click it and look through to find one entitled, Parents >of Children with Hairloss, then click that and peruse the information and join if you wish. There's even a teen group available. Good Luck!
