I know how difficult this is.
I lost all my hair in 3 months and people I knew for years did not recognize me. It was the strangest thing.

Going fast
It seemed like my AA was taking a vacation as I hadn't noticed any new bald patches for quite some time. And then BAM over the last week I've lost a LOT of hair. I woke up last Thursday with two partial eyebrows, so I shaved the rest. I have also lost a lot of body hair, which feels weird (I was pretty hairy). My clothes actually feel different. Going fast

It seemed like my AA was taking a vacation as I hadn't noticed any new bald patches for quite some time. And then BAM over the last week I've lost a LOT of hair. Thanks for the warm welcome. This site is great even though I haven't posted until now, I've been checking the site out and it has been a valuable support and learning tool.
I was just diagnosed with AA at the end of August. Since last month I've kept my head shaved as there's not enough hair left to do anything with. I am really not used to or digging the bald look yet, especially since my hair is dark and my skin is white. Regardless of how close I shave, It… Continue

- Thanks Drakes. My friends have been great. Lucky for me I'm past the age where superficial things like a strange appearance don't mean a whole lot among my peers. I can imagine if I were in my 20s or younger friends might stray or not want to hang out with me in public due to my looks. I was having lunch with a friend today who said. "A lot of guys go bald you just went balder, faster". I thought that was pretty funny and plan on using it regularly. @ Jeffery- I haven't delved too far into any groups yet. I will check them out.

- I've had it since 93... mine went fast too .. 2 weeks pretty much.. in February too (-10 Celsius Degrees sucked).. Don't get too distressed.. it's something that's happened and you need to 'get up an deal with it' :) have a beer... chill out and think for a second -- having people not recognize you isn't such a bad thing :) Do you know how many people I've walked past without saying a cause they didn't recognize me? Think about the people that bugged you in the past :)
Seriously.. you'll find your comfort level.. mine is a cool Stingy Fedora (ska style) with black bug eyed sunglasses :) Take your time man.. hopefully you have some buddies who you can hang out with .. True buddies will stick by you. I was fortunate -- one of my buddies shaved his head too along with me.. We looked cool at pool halls etc.. :) I still do the same things I've always done.. now without hair.. snowboarding is a little colder.. I get sun burns on my head now when on the beach.. I have to Photoshop my pictures to remove the shine on my head from the camera flash :) As you can tell I joke about this kinda stuff... helps sometimes.. You're gonna save a lot of cash on hair cuts too (another benefit)... :)
