This message is for Willow..I'm replying to your post of May 29, 2008 regarding your friend who has universalis and had success with her steroid injections. I, too, have alopecia universalis for the past 3 1/2 years. I've been receiving injections in my arms and hips for the past year every 4 to 5 weeks with success as regrowing my hair. My doctor wants to only go around few rounds or so and stop thinking that if I just learn to relax and meditate I should be able to keep my hair. WRONG! He already stopped the injections once and it all fell out again. Restarted them and it grew back again. I understand there can long term side effects but right now my family doctor is monitoring me and things are going great. I don't want to stop them. I was wondering if there was any way you could find out your friends situation for me. How long has she been getting the shots for and if she is still getting them? I told him I was going to prove him wrong and find someone that has been getting them for years and is still doing great. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone if possible. Thank you!
When your doing shots, its very important to try not wearing a wig, hair band, kerchief, or anything. Especially now that summer is coming with the wonderful vitamin of the sun. Anything like a hat, can cause pressure alopecia, and stop or delay hair growth. Also, I found days that it was cold, it hurt more, so when you do go, and after, do whatever you need to do to keep yourself comfortable, and warm.
When I finally found a doctor who just knew why I was bald, I was 23 yrs old, I had been bald for over 15 yrs. I did 5 yrs of injections, every two weeks, and counted average 100 needle pricks, and took oral steroids on and off. Some hair did grow back. For me, I had been universalis for too many years, and the longer your folicles stay dormant, the harder it is to regrow. I had a friend, introduced by the doctor, who also had universalis, but because she went and got shots right away, her hair did grow back, and last I seen her, about 5 yrs ago, she still had a full head of hair.
Hi Lise,
Thank you for the nice comment. Welcome to Alopecia World. I love your attitude, it's much like mine. I am having some baseball caps made with various "bald" sayings on them. When they come in, I would love to show them to you and send you one if you'd like. Take care and thanx again for the nice comment. I will keep in touch.
Love and Hugs,
Dotty
Hi Lise! I love your name. While taking French classes in school, Lise was always the name my best friend went by. Still call her that sometimes. :) Hope you're having a good day.
Bonjour Lise-Marie,
Merci pour ton gentil commentaire :)
C'est plaisant de voir qu'il y a de plus en plus de francophones sur ce site! J'ai plus de facilité à m'exprimer en français qu'en anglais.
Au plaisir d'échanger donc!
