About Me:
My name is Kimberly.

I so miss my hair but I am very grateful to know that I am not the only one. I love ya'll!

I began to notice my hair loss right around the age of 26, 27ish just shortly after having my now 7 year old son. I went to dermatalogist, diagnosed with having alopecia areata and treated by injection shot of steroids to the scalp in affected area (crown center of my scalp). I suffered from headaches so no longer given shot instead was given prescribed topical cream. What a mess! And it still showed no signs of hair growth after a year of use.

So I began using various over the counter products like, Rogaine for women, Organic Root Stimulator, Empress Re-gro and Noxiderm. All of which showed very little signs of hair growth. One major side affect using these line of products is that hair loss will return due to the lack of minoxidil, found in them to treat the condition. That got very costly after a while.

My mother also suffers from this condition. But she takes a lot of medications for various health issues. During her younger years she never experienced this problem. It wasn't until over the years when she was put on medication for her health problems and an enormous amount of stress that she was under in her personal life.

I am not obese and is currently not under any stress or medications. I work out daily and eat a well balanced meal. My hormones are all in tack according to latest doctor reports. This could be just an hereditary condition, I suppose or just maybe my hair follicles were severely damaged during major hormonal change after giving birth to my 7 years old son.

After years of wigs, quick wigs, weaves and the back and forth to the dermotalogist; I decided to go back to what I knew best, braids and use of product called "Doo Gro for thinning hair". Believe it or not my hair started to grow back but not in the center of my scalp (the most affected area), just the areas around it. My hair has always been thin (not damaged) and is just long enough now where I can cover the crown. But if the wind blows, I have to quickly get to the nearest bathroom mirror to re-cover the bald spot (no photos available at this time). How embarrassing is that?

But you know what, I have learned to love me first, inspite of my condition. I realize that everyday I get up my purpose is not completely fulfilled until, I have encouraged at least one person!

I also understand that this could be a lot worse.

Thank you to the founder(s) of this website. It allows us all to encourage one another and appreciate each other for who we are.
