About Me:
im ok.

i first found out i had a chunk of my hair missing i when i went to the hairdresser in April08, she asked if i was having any stress. and to be honest i had just got engaged in february and planning had started to get on my mind. So she shows me in the mirror this bald spot right on the top of my head. I dont panic, i did expect it as the inevitable as my body has slowly been rebeling. ( hip dislocation at the gym, pain in the knees when its cold etc.) i figured if give it a chance to grow back. and i took pictures. because im odd like that.( also becuase i cant see backward into the mirror). the internet just made me scared because there didn't seem to be anything i could really do to ensure that my hair will grow back. so i went to see my doctor, who gave me the choice of having a steroid pumped into my head or a topical cream ( its the same stuff they use for keloid scarring apprently to make it go down ive had it before). i hate needles but i thought direct medication pumped into my head. so she gave me that topical stuff that you have to wear for an hour or more to numb your head. and she then stuck my head and all i can compare it to is when you stick something sharp into a block of wood and then try to wiggle it to get it back out again.. then she did that 14-15 times. that was almost three months ago.
the hair is growing back. a bit patchy in the middle, though the bald spot has expanded a bit. So far so good. and ive been taking pictures becuase if makes me feel better about whats happening. but im hoping that enough of it will grow back for the wedding. ( and i am cutting my hair short after just cause the rest of my hair is darn heavy), to tell you the truth i dont really mind though.. its bit like a head vent and i dont mind the cold air on the top of my head.

my only fear is that my fiancee will be embarrassed about it if it gets worse. or that eventually ill have to explain it to others. and i hate doing that..

so i went back to my doctor to get another set of needles poked into my head its been three monthes since the last time. she says its growing in fine . though for me it feels like its taking forever. my mom still things i got if becuase i dont eat right or take vitamins. which is a bit irritating. so i like to walk arounf the house with my bald spot all out like friar tuck style, and irritate her back. ( shes very emotional about my hair 0_o)

after getting the needles the first time… Continue

I hope it grows back before the wedding. But I am sure you will look beautiful anyway. Good Luck!

Hi Amanda,
I know how hard it can be. I have had alopecia for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It might make you feel better. Check it out on my page -- and let me know how else I can help.
