Well I am three weeks into loosing my hair. I have Alopecia areata I think maybe I have lost over 50% with most of the patches on the back of my head a very top. I am unable to hide it anymore so I have been wearing a wig.And yes I feel so self concious in it. Yeterday it was windy so I had to worry and wonder if if was going to blow off. Luckily it did not.

I dont understand this whole alopecia areata, I thought you only loose patches. A few more weeks of this I will have very little hair left. I try not to feel sorry for myself but it is hard not to. It has changed everything. Even the little things we all take for granted like putting on a pair of sunglassses. I have to be careful so I dont knock the wig off.Well I am trying to be strong and take this day by day!!!!

Yep, that wind was killer yesterday. I sometimes tie on a scarf and keep a pocket mirror before going into jobs after walking from the parking lot in wind. (Try yard duty outside in wind and rain when teaching, for a real thrill.) Alopecia can go to Alopecia Totalis (whole head...like me) or Alopecia Universalis (whole bod, even nose hairs and you-know-where). As to glasses, some wigs have ear tabs, and some do not. I usually look for those when trying them on, because they bend and can accommodate the glasses. I goofed in my excitement to buy my brunette "Rizzo" wig this time, and find that the wig rides up a bit with glasses on. My blond wig has the tabs and fits better. This is a learning experience...and a test of strength, KLO. We really need to go have that coffee and talk!

if you can afford human hair, go for the Follea Gripper's or Freedom Hair! After my alopecia aerata for 4 yrs turned into alopecia universalis i had to go with something more durable and stayed on. I wore synthetic wigs in between my hair loss and re-growth and now that i have universalis i gave into buying human hair - it's more comfortable on a bald head then synthetic. I have to say not having hair is more maintenance, especially when you don't have lashes or eyebrows - ugh! Gets old! Hang in there - and if you can find a wig that suits you and makes you feel more confident you will be amazed at how much stress is relieved.

Your hair loss seems to be moving faster than mine. I am so sorry. Having time to process is important. Everyone has such different stories, yet we are all dealing with the pain of losing our hair no matter what the timeline may be. If that is a wig you are wearing...it looks fantastic!

My profile pic is my real hair, although I have posted a pic of me in my "new hair" as I like to call it.
