I am sure you all have heard this comment by someone trying to get us Alopecians to see the bright side of not having hair. Well I dont know about the rest of you but this has been very expensive for me.
I was only diagnosed 4 months ago and lost my hair rather rapidly. I went from buying every scarf & hat i could find to hide the bald spots on the top of my head, only to find in a matter of weeks I needed a full wig.
I buy hats, scarfs, glues, combs, full wigs, halo wigs…

It has been almost 2 months now and I have had so much hair loss that I shaved it all off last night.I thougt I was fine with it but once I started that first pass through my hair with the clippers ,I did get a little emotional.I quickly recovered and knew I was doing the right thing!

Well I am three weeks into loosing my hair. I have Alopecia areata I think maybe I have lost over 50% with most of the patches on the back of my head a very top. I am unable to hide it anymore so I have been wearing a wig.And yes I feel so self concious in it. Yeterday it was windy so I had to worry and wonder if if was going to blow off. Luckily it did not.

I think it would be in your best interest to find another doctor that is willing to treat you for your hashimotos. You see, my thyroid kept testing normal and when I finally got referred to an endroconologist she discovered that my antibodies were sky high like yours. She has been treating my hashimotos with Synthroid 100 mcg. My alopecia has slowed down but I am never without a spot or two. Some times they get very, very big... like the one on the back of my head right now... My alopecia is treated with steriod shots every 6 to 8 weeks. I know and understand too well the question, "why me?" ... I have researched to no end for a cure "for me" meaning everyone is different and responds differently to treatmens as you know full well being a nurse and have yet to find the answer. I refust to give up, however. It is very frustrating to say the least! Now when I discover a new spot, instead of getting angry at the good Lord, I thank him for placement of the spot! This site is excellent for support... find a different doctor that will treat your extreme antibodies! Keep in touch! I care... we all care!
Hello and welcome!
How are you today? I have a spoiled dog and two spoiled cats, but they are so sweet they deserve it!
