Women with alopecia pose in stunning photo series to show that bald is beautiful

"Models removed their wigs to embrace their hairlessness to pose in a photoshoot which raises awareness of the condition."

Excerpts from an article on Metro.co.uk:

"Photographer Chrissy Sparks, 35, from Birmingham, has photographed thousands of women, of all shapes and sizes, since opening…

Student with Alopecia takes the crown at local pageant

""Bald is beautiful" isn't just a motto for one Gilbert Middle School student— it's a lifestyle."

I recently came across this article on wxlt.com that I thought I would share with the community.

"Gracie Ann Roland was diagnosed with alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss from some or all areas of the body, a year ago."

"Rather than letting her…

Bold forever after

Hey people,

Sometimes i wish my life is a fairy tale and in the end my hair will grow back and i marry this handsome bratt pitt lookalike.

I dream about it a lot but in the end, in the real world, my hair will never grow back.

At least thats what the docters told me last summer. My hormonal cream didnt work. So i had to start accepting my boldness.

Almost 4 months later (now) i only wear hats or scarfs for fun sometimes. But most of the days im just bold, at home, at…

Alopecia awareness! Portland, OR, photo shoot

Hello Everyone!

First of all I would like to apologize for not being on the site more often. You are all wonderful people with interesting and inspiring stories to tell.

A little about me. I was diagnosed with Alopecia 10 years ago when I was 15. Its been a tough road for me and my loved ones. For the past month I have been walking this crazy earth without a hair piece and have been feeling pretty confident about it. Still some ups and downs. Now, I have tried this 3 times…

Locks of Love

So, I first applied for Locks of Love towards the end of fourth grade. And it literally was the best decision I have ever made. It saved my life. Everyone was like, "Wow, nice hair Jackie." I mean, a few girls gave me snotty looks. It was probably because my hairpiece looks awesome and they were just jealous. That's how I like to look at it. lol c: Anyway, I love Locks of Love. They are the nicest people ever. Super sweet and down to earth. This month, I need to apply for a new one because…

Random thought on my journey with alopecia

Most of you know that I am from Canada and rj is American. So when we married we started a whirlwind of immigration processes. I had to file yet another form and get another set of biometric done. One of the steps was another photo session at the immigration office.

I filled out the form and clicked “bald” as my hair color. For a second I wondered if I should have clicked black, since it was an official government form and being AA my black hair does show if I don't shave daily. I…

Crazy times!

Lately I have been so overwhelmed with finals and work that I haven't really taken some time for myself.

Its like, we work so hard to find some things in life that we forget about the little things. I have definitely taken for granted some things lately but, with hard work comes success. Other times, when you work so hard for some things, others just happen to come along, and are given to you. This is an excellent example:…

A Bald Woman's Journey Back to Love

Cheryl Carvery with and without hair I was camping one day in 1991 when a friend asked, “Why do you shave the back of your head and around your ears?”

I had no idea what my friend was talking about. So I found a mirror, looked closely at my head of long, thick hair, and was shocked to discover that large bald spots were developing on the sides and in the back of my head.

Confused and afraid, I consulted a doctor who told me that I was experiencing patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) due to…

Egyptian Goddess??

Things have been quite interesting at work lately as far as my alopecia is concerned. Last week I finally spoke to the store manager about not wearing my wig to work anymore and she has no problems with this at all but we agreed I whould wear a scarf at least so that the public won't feel uncomfortable - I understand this and although it isn't completely fair, it is a customer service job and I can't let discomfort stand in the way of my own progress.

So, on Halloween I wore my bright red… Continue

I am not alone!

It's so funny how God works - everything has its own time and only He knows when the time is right. God comes along and says "OK, you're ready to receive this change and grow." I don't always want these changes. And sometimes, I have been praying for them for years and wondered why they were taking so long to happen. My journey from AA to AU started at four. Bald spots and thinning were a part of my life pretty much every spring of my childhood. I had no idea though, that ALL the hair on my… Continue
