I have AA my entire life and up until i was 15 I dealt with the task of trying to cover up my many bald spots with what little hair I had. Finally I shaved my head right before a soccer trip to almagordo and it turned out to be an awesome decision for several reasons 1. i felt in control 2. i could get a wig if i felt uncomfortable 3. it was like 100 degrees in almagordo and while everyone else was baking with all their hair I was slightly cooler. Now I am dealing with the task of riding my self of the wig and getting ready to start college.

My own worst enemy

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 4:30am 6 Comments

I have had AA my entire life and have been basically bald for the last 3 years I still have been unable to rid my mind of my self loathing thoughts. It took me 2 years to convince myself to wear a wig , which I hate wearing it makes me feel like I'm hiding myself behind a uncomfortable and itchy disguise but I wear it in fear of dealing with the comments and looks of my peers. Before that I would wear a cap to school and a big jacket to hide myself in and for awhile it worked I made myself… Continue

So im in track and i wear a bandana to protect my head from the sun.I was runing the 100 meter hurtles and as i was runing my bandana flew off in the middle of the race. I kept on runing for a couple of reasons 1 my coach would been like why did you stop 2 i was like in 2nd or 3rd place and i didnt know were my bandana went. no one said anything but it was still really embarrasing because there was a standuim full of people .

A little advice please

Ok so Ive had AA my entire life(im 15) and never went completly bald. Now im getting really close to being bald but it still looks like i have not a lot of hair but enough so i look semi "normal" when I wear a beanie. So I was wondering when other people decided to shave their head and if it was difficult or something like that and I have been considering it for a while but im really indesieve so if you guys could give me your opion and or some advice that would be awsome.

Hello Lauren

I just read your latest post and thought it might be helpful to pass on some infomation with regards to (Freedom) vacuum wigs and hair donations.

To make a Freedom vacuum hairpiece it can take on average of 10 ponytails per hairpiece - so even though your friends hair could be used in a Freedom hairpiece other hair would have to be blended with it to make a whole hairpiece. You might be thinking why does that happen? I will try and explain : Raw ponytails like your friends have many different length hair in them, this has to be sorted. You may get 2 inch, 3 inch right up to the longest length of hair from one ponytail, but you personally may require a 10 inch hairpiece so all the other lengths of hair in the donated ponytail are not able to be used for your hairpiece. Sorting hair is a very complicated difficult job - but one Freedom is very good at doing.

If I can pass on any more information on where to donate your hair etc. please feel free to drop into my page.

Take care

Rosy
