Did anyone read about the new study out of Columbia U? About the genetic link to Alopecia? Does this mean there is a hope for treatment/cure in the near or somewhat distant future???? I am AT, going AU and don;t want to get excited over nothing.....

Hi All,
I have been thinking about all of the lack of research/treatments/cures for our disease. There are so many great people on this site. Why can't we start something that raises money devoted to find a cure? I know two people who have a child with a condition (not alopecia and fatal unfortunately) that have devoted so much time and effort into raising money for a cure....and both work full time. I was just thinking if we really put some thought into this, could we make a difference? I… Continue

thank you to everyone who responded to my previous post. just one more question for you (sorry)....when hair does start to regrow, can it be seen right away or does it start as barely visible to the naked eye, kinda like soft facial hair that you can only see if you look in a mirror with the right light?????

I think I am at my lowest point. I have almost no hair left and I just cry all the time. I don't leave the house except for doctor appointments. I have stopped talking to all of my friends and have even begun to stop talking to family members unless they call me.
I just can't deal with this anymore. I can't even imagine living the rest of my life with this pain. I can't look at myself in the mirror and just feel like i am not "normal." I don't even feel like a real person if that makes… Continue

Just got back from derm....

I just got home from a dermatologist appointment. I haven't seen her in about 6 months, due to the fact I learned I was pregnant and was not willing to get the cortisone shots during the pregnancy. My hair is falling out rapidly and I asked her if it was because I am pregnant and it really started falling out fast when I got pregnant. (My AA has been active 6 years, and it was only in the past 6 months that I couldn't cover it). She told me that my hair loss has NOTHING TO DO WITH HORMONES. I… Continue

I am almost at the point where there is nothing left on my head, and my eybrows are starting to go as well. I know that this disease is unpredictable and no-one can tell me what will happen. I guess I am just looking for someone to tell me that they had regrowth even after AT/AU???? I know that I should learn to accept this and be okay with it...I am just not there yet.
