Wigs where the hair can be tucked behind your ears

Started this discussion. Last reply by Kara May 1. 16 Replies

It seems to me that every wig has those "tabs" right in the front of your ears that make it impossible to tuck behind your ears, or wear in a regular ponytail. I have been wearing wigs for a few…Continue

"Hello, I know this thread is ancient, but I was just searching for "earache". I've had SO MANY more since I've lost my hair. What did your doctor say? Thanks!"

"OMG me too! I have no hair on my head or eyebrows, and my eyelashes are half gone. Yet I have this new thing where I have a little blonde "down" on the sides of my cheeks I never had before. What the heck!?!?!"

"I love this article!!!! I also love that it was on the front page of your paper and hopefully everyone in your town was educated about alopecia. I still find so many people that have never heard of it until they talk to me. Congratulations!"

"Hey everyone, I found a low cost temporary solution - the Bobbi Boss Badu wig. It has a black cotton headband and the hair is attached to that. The headband isn't super attractive, but what do you expect for $30? I am going to layer on a cuter…"

"Thanks, I saw an acupuncturist who did Chinese Medicine, but haven't seen a regular naturopath yet. I really want to. Did your hair grow back but underneath the hair you had a blistery scalp? Was it a full head of hair? Do you have photos? I…"

"I am sorry for your experience. While some of the treatments are tough, DPCP did work for me for 15 years... all of my hair grew back. Yes, it can be uncomfortable, itchy, blistery and peely, but it is a successful treatment for some. Unfortunately,…"

About Me:
One day in early Nov 2011I was washing my hair and suddenly hundreds of hairs started falling out. By New Years I was 75% bald and had to shave my head. It has not grown back since then. I had scalp biopsies done and got my official diagnosis of diffuse alopecia areata. I have gotten all of the blood work done at the endocronologist and I have no hormone imbalance or vitamin deficiencies aside from hypothyroid which I've had for 12 years. She told me this was caused by stress.

I am 38 years old, and never had thick luxurious hair, but I would give just about anything to go back to my old thin hair. After careful research I am not going to do predinsone or injections, or purposely burn my scalp. All of these treatments seem way too risky and why would I want to cause MORE health problems just to save my hair? I did two months of acupuncture and chinese herbs which did not help.

I am so thankful for my husband and friends, who have been amazing and supportive. And I am also extremely thankful for this website which got me through the very tough times at the beginning. I don't go on as often now since I've mostly come to terms with this. But I hope my story helps someone else in the future.

I Kara...
I just stumbled on your page and read your notes. My heart goes out to you. What you are now experiencing, I went through last spring, and it's such a difficult stage. I think you are wise not to pursue aggressive treatment. I have been seeing a naturopath and am striving to optimize my health, of course hoping that ultimately I'll have regrowth. Be good to yourself.
