Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Single
About Me:
My first battle with alopecia was about 20 years ago. I had no idea why my hair was coming out so fast and proceeded to see a dermatologist. He informed me that I had Alopecia that was probably hereditary and it would probably get worse as I got older. Over the years I have had periods of growth and periods when my hair would fall out. I have come to believe that even though stress may not be the main cause of my Alopecia, it has alot to do with the falling out stage.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Happy Valentines Day Alopecia World Members

Posted on February 11, 2009 at 7:15am 3 Comments

The warm and friendly spirit of Alopecia World welcomed me like a gracious host. I am new to this site but I feel a shared sisterhood, truly like I am among family members. Even though I have worn wigs and gotten weaves I have always felt alien to other women with normal healthy hair. It is so nice to be among others who have experienced my frustration, allowing me to feel accepted and to know that its okay, I am not alone. I pray that we can all be a comfort, help and inspiration to each other… Continue

Hi JoDeanna,
I put mine on in the morning and unless I am going out in the garden, washing the cars or doing something dirty (I use an older one for those jobs) it stays on all day and I don't feel it.
They do take a little while to get used to when you get your first one. Putting it on mainly because if its not in the right place it will feel strange.

Hi JoDeanna,
Hope you have had a lovely weekend. Sorry for the late reply to your question (we've had a busy couple of days). A vacuum wig is custom made prosthesis (wig) to fit the wearer. I have copied some product info from the Freedom web site for you. If you want to look at their web site here is their link.

www.freedomwigs.co.nz

A perfect fit is achieved by using a plaster mould of your head. This helps to re-create your hairline shape, crown and parting. A soft, permeable silicone cap tinted to match your skin colour is fitted to your mould and this exact fit creates the suction effect that withstands the rigours of daily life - even the strongest wind!

Untreated human hair of the finest quality is then implanted into the silicone. To create a natural look and movement that is just like the real thing, we ensure an even spread of hair by inserting just one or two hairs at a time.

Once fitted with your new prosthesis, you are ready for salon styling!

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES

Security: No sliding. No dislodging

As many will testify, traditional off-the-shelf, stretch cap, and ready-to-wear fashion wigs can be unpredictable. While the stretch caps, elastic and velcro versions work adequately over a head of hair, they slide on a bald scalp.
By ensuring a perfect fit that creates suction, Freedom Hair wigs are difficult to dislodge and do not come off accidentally.

These wigs have worked very well for me and with care will last well (the one in my photo is now about 4 and a half years old with one repair done at 2 years). Feel free to ask if there is anything else.
Take care
Cheryl
