- I'm 23 years old,live in Southern California and have a Beautiful Son. I've been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata,I first noticed a small bald spot this past Dec.2010 I hoped it was a ring worm because I knew treatment was easy and hair would grow back right away and stop falling out but it wasn't after a few months the spot kept growing it started at the size of a quarter and is now almost as big as my palm! Another spot has developed it was smaller than a dime and now a little bigger than a quarter.I've gotten every possible blood test done and everything is normal! I started getting steroid injections from the dermatoligst on my bald spots to help hair grow back.after doing some research Mirena has popped up a few to many times as a cause of hair loss I've had my Mirena in for a lil over 3 years now next week I will have it removed and HOPE I will see improvement in my hair soon after!

- Hello Alli I'm sorry I hadn't replied. I got my Mirena removed in April. I read blogs and posts of different people that were also diagnosed with Alopecia or had thinning hair while on the Mirena. Even though doctors still don't admit that it is related. Since I got it removed I have not gotten any more bald spots. I had the Mirena in my body for a lil over 2 yrs I believe. I was horrified when i started seeing the bald spots and was finally diagnosed with Alopecia. The places where I had the bald spots are now full of hair> It is almost around 3 inches long now =) I truly do believe that it was connected with the Mirena. I really hope you see improvement Alli and I am glad that you got it removed.
