So, I am working at a Temp assignment while I look for a permanent job. I was on my way to an interview and was a little nervous, hoping that my baldness won't have a negative impact, that I get the job.

as I walk down the street, this man comes up along side me and says "looking good sis, looking good; I wish more women showed what God gave them and go natural like you; I'm tired of all these women with their horse-hair wigs and weaves; they ought to just wear what God gave them. Looking good sis, looking good".

I had such a good laugh and I thanked him profusely. It was the shot in the arm I needed going to my interview.

The interview went great and there was no mention of my baldness. Mind you, part of the job involves being a relief receptionist.

Time will tell if I get the job. If I don't I cant help but think my bald head had something to do with it.

It is what it is. In the meantime it felt GREAT getting that kind of feedback from a stranger.

I loved it.

Hi Lili, Last week we were visiting someone in a hospital and I came around the corner and this older man (well older than me) looked up. He response made me smile. He said "You look good, GOLLY, you look good!" as if he was surprised that he was looking at a bald woman and thought that way. I think we are surprising the world.

As for the job, you may not get that one, perhaps it may also be because of your alopecia. But if and when you do find the job, it will be under your terms and you will be able to walk into that workplace feeling free and completely you. Sometimes it may be a good idea to mention your alopecia, in case they believe a sickness could prevent you from preforming the job.

This is wonderful. So often we must go through our day dealing with those who would steal our joy. Bless this gentleman for giving some joy so freely and graciously! May others take notice.

Cheryl, thank you for the advice. I am in need of employment, a salary. This interview was at a law firm. Your advice is on the money. I followed up just now with an email to the person I interviewed with and advised I was not ill, and that having Alopecia would not compromise my attendance/performance if hired for the position. Good looking out; I appreciate it.

Angie, I hope you have many instances like I did. I have to say it felt great.

I am new to AW, so have just read your post - what a great story Lili! Bravo to you for going to the interview sans wig. The universe delivered an angel to give you that affirming boost on your way to your interview!! Did you get the job? You look terrific and certainly don't need hair to get work done! I hope you've found the right fit in the perfect job for you :) take care.

No, I didn't get the job. I'll never really know their real criteria for not having considered me; my background was perfect. I don't take it to heart. If they didn't want me because of my bald head, then I didn't need to be there. Something better comes.
