Well I just changed my profile pic on facebook. Bald, for all to see. Why? I was sitting here after a challenging phone call by my daughter thinking of the trauma she has lived through and is still going through and by association my hb and I as well when suddenly my hairloss didn't seem important anymore. Why am I hiding this? A lot of people I know know I'm bald. I gave a whole speech on it for god's sake to a crowd of people, some I associate with regularly. I outed myself publicly. So... with a touch of a button there I am, out there, and to hell with it. I'm not saying I won't be wearing my wigs anymore but I am over not letting friends and acquaintances see me as I really am, even if it is only in a photo.

We are fortunate that this thing we share is only traumatic if we let it be...A little bit of 'to hell with it' goes a long way with alopecia.

I bet you friends are really proud of you too!

I got kinda close to that, I posted the picture I have as my profile picture on here on facebook. It doesn's show my buzzed hair, but the people that know(I sent an email to all of my family and some friends telling them about my alopecia and my wig) all know what the meaning of my picture is. Maybe one day I will get as brave as you and post a bare picture. Someday! Congrats on your courage!

AWESOME! I haven't even had the courage to post a neked (bare headed) picture of me on AW. I'll go out and about with a hat or scarf on and walk around bald at home but that's as far as it's gone.....so far :-)

It's inspiring to see women as yourself out there doing this.

Its funny how life has a way of putting things into perspective sometimes and you think why is my hair such a big deal. Good for you!

It's been a very slow process for me to do this...I've had AU for over 20 years!
