I thought I was alone in this - apparently I am not! : )

I have been dealing with Alopecia for ten years. In those ten years I have not met a single person who is struggling with this condition. Just recently I decided to reveal my Alopecia secret and I feel so relieved. I found this website through Facebook and was truly amazed. Thank you Alopecia World - it is obvious you are helping many.

Hi Caley, That is one of the best things about this site - the realization that you are really not alone. Congrats on your, for lack of a better term, coming out about your alopecia. We who have this medical condition have nothing to be ashamed of. Baldness is one of the many varieties of the human condition - it's just that simple. It does not equate to ugliness or inferiority. As you view the photos of members, please take comfort in the realiztion that alopecians can be quite beautiful/handsome. Welcome to this site.

I'm glad you found us Caley. AW has help me so much. Like you I felt so isolated. What you should know is that many people have alopecia, but they handle it by wearing wigs.
Here you are among family, so be yourself and welcome to AW!

I'm so glad I found this site. My hair loss is hereditary, my mom just has little sprigs of hair on her beautiful little head. She's totally comfortable going out bald. Me NO. I'm trying to find the best possible solution for a wig. The vacuum wigs keep getting rave reviews but I want to know what success if any people have had with custom lace wigs. If they're bonded to your head and you can part them anywhere, don't they look more natural than the vacuum wigs? Any info or input you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Leah

Hi Caley. I like your honesty about your alopecia. I, too, am a teacher! :-) I'm just starting down this road but I think I want to be like you. My mom has alopecia and she tries SO hard to keep it a secret I think it makes it so much more painful and scary for her. I just don't want to be trapped like that. does that make any sense? Anyhow, nice to meet a fellow teacher! Cheers!
