I Just Can't Bare It (Unless I Choose To, That Is ;-)

For the past year or so I have not worn a wig. Instead I have mainly chosen to wear head scarves in public . . . and in the past I have also gone completely bald. Over the years I have gone through a continuous inner struggle with this issue, whether to just go bald, where a wig or a head-covering . . . and I wonder how many others face this same issue and/or feel similarly about it. Sometimes I enjoy wearing a wig, playing with different looks can be fun and there are times . . . especially… Continue

Trouble with other peoples acceptance

I have never really known anyone else with alopecia and i guess its really hard.
Whats even harder though is dates, most people said they would go on a date with me if one thing, i had hair.
Im not comfortable with wearing wigs and i want people to like me for me and not just my hair. How can i get people to accept me for ME?

And no...even though i have had this for 13 years i still wish i had hair...guess i cant accept it

Getting used to things....

Well, so in the past 3 months, I've discovered that wearing a wig is not too traumatic an experience. I screwed up the courage to start wearing the first one I've bought (the bob cut one) to work at the end of April, and I was just absolutely bowled over by all the compliments and comments everyone had! I think I had the biggest ego of my life that day! (Which honestly, I very much enjoyed as I have not had an overabundance of self-esteem in the last many years).

However, I had a… Continue

Wigs wigs wigs...

Gosh, sometimes I get so sick of wigs, I live in a really small town, it's pretty obvious I wear a wig.

It's even worse when the "children" here think its funny to pull it off in public *twitch*.

I'm sixteen, I know it sounds immature but I really dislike people who make fun.

Tease, pull and jerk off my wig, call me baldy etc.

And decent wigs are so expensive...

I looked into a vacuum wig that wouldn't come off when someone pulled it.

4100$,

good… Continue

Wig Wearing Women - Stand Tall!!

I feel so compelled to write this message to all of you bald women who choose to wear wigs. I don't mean to be controversial or engage in debate because aren't we all one family, one community of support? We are ALL in the same boat. First, to you ladies who go bald in public, I appreciate and thank you for being true to what you think is right for you. Because isn't that REALLY what it's about - To Thine Own Self Be True.

But that said, shouldn't we all be accepting each other for… Continue

In Need of a Confidence Boost (and Advice!)

Hey guys!

Today is one of those tough days when my confidence and acceptance of my hair loss is slipping. I'm not burst-into-tears-so-unhappy miserable or anything, but I'm more like "eh." I'm thinking my head shave will be taking place sooner rather than later. When I comb my hair after my shower I keep losing clumps. There are only so many months I can keep losing clumps before my hair is too thin to be pretty! So I'm a little shaken by that. I'm thinking it'll be an experience that's… Continue

My story and my current dilemma

Well, I am not sure what it is I have. From the pictures I've seen, its not alopecia areata - that seems more like quarter size circles, or areas, where the hair falls out completely. My hair looks more like female pattern baldness. I've lost the hair gradually over the last 6 or so years, mostly on the top and crown and now on the right side too. Fron the side, you can pretty much see the outline of my scalp, and I'm doing the comb-over thing from the left side over the top of my head, which I… Continue

Wigs, Wigs, and more Wigs! (Questions)

Hi all!

Since I have female pattern baldness, I might get to a stage where my natural hair is no longer attractive and I will want to wear a wig. If and when it gets to that point, I would ideally like to shave my head first, against my mom's tears and grandma's begging and pleading. (It royally sucks that they're so unsupportive of me getting this crap out of my life. At least grandma supports the wigs, though she still tells me to promise I wouldn't do the big… Continue

Egyptian Goddess??

Things have been quite interesting at work lately as far as my alopecia is concerned. Last week I finally spoke to the store manager about not wearing my wig to work anymore and she has no problems with this at all but we agreed I whould wear a scarf at least so that the public won't feel uncomfortable - I understand this and although it isn't completely fair, it is a customer service job and I can't let discomfort stand in the way of my own progress.

So, on Halloween I wore my bright red… Continue

WIGOLOGY 101

Hello,

I've been thinking about the years I've worn wigs, hairpieces and after reading some of the blogs and pages here, I thought it would be a good idea to share my knowledge, advice, skills, etc with you all. Below are some of the sites I've shopped at and still shop at when needed. Also, I've rated them, please add your sites and advice. I think this would be helpful to those newly diagnosed who… Continue

Stories and Questions

So, I've worn my new wig to work this week. It has been easier than I thought. Its funny because I have had people following me around all week telling me I look 'sassy'. HA! It has also been easier to talk about to the people I work with and go to classes with. I knew that as soon as I wore it, I was going to have to explain to people do didn't already know. It has been better than I expected. But, the first time I wore it out with some friends, I sat in the car and cried before I went… Continue

Owner of a Lonely Heart

Just an update:

So I only wore my wig to work for a week. It was long enough for me to feel uncomfortable. While the new wig made me feel very pretty, I just couldn't stand the feeling of wearing it all day long! I'm away from home for 11 hours a day including my commute and by the end of the day it was just so dang hot and uncomfortable! So I've been wearing bandanas to work now. I feel so much better and more like myself this way. In a way I felt like wearing the wig was just not… Continue

Grrr...frustrations

It's only been 3 days of wearing a wig to work and I'm already sick of it! LOL. I mean...I like it and it makes me feel pretty...but geesh! It's one thing to wear it for a couple hours out to the bar or out with friends...it's quite another to wear it around allllll day at work! 11 hours is a long time! For a wig, mine is VERY comfortable. Fits perfect without slippage and it's pretty light. But after wearing it for 11 hours...man...that's a long time! It gets pretty toasty in here and my head… Continue

Experience with wigs?

If you didn't check it out already, I posted a forum discussion on wigs. If you have any experience with wigs whatsoever, please please check out the discussion and leave your wisdom for those of us that are clueless. :) So so so much appreciated.

If the link below doesn't work (I'm not too technically savvy) then please just go check it out in the forum in the wigs category.
