I'm a thief - I stole this quote from someone here on AW

Posted on March 18, 2010 at 10:27am 6 Comments

"I used to be a fun-loving happy and joyful person. Lately I feel as though the life is sucked out of me. I find myself getting angry at my hair like it is betraying me by falling out! AND PART OF ME WANTS IT ALL TO FALL OUT ALREADY. I don't want it anymore."

The portion that I have in CAPS is where I went to, within my thought process quite quickly...and I am still there. This seems to be quite the feeling with many on this wonderful site.

Have you gotten to this phase or… Continue

Shaving

Posted on March 2, 2010 at 12:37pm 3 Comments

I am sure it has been discussed but I can't locate the thread. Do you shave in the shower? Do you just let the warm water run over your head? Do you use a cream or soap? Do you stand in front of the sink having showered the previous evening? Do you put a warm wash cloth on your head for a short period of time first? Do you shave every morning or evening? Do you work in short strokes or long? Do you shave with the grain against the grain or even sideways? Do you go through blades as quickly as I… Continue

Going out for Valentine's day this evening

Posted on February 12, 2010 at 10:45am 3 Comments

My bride of 30 years and I are going to a very nice eating establishment this evening for Valentines Day. Made the reservations some time ago and my first question was not if I could get a reservation but, what is the required wear? Semi-formal present yourself as if you were going to church. So, that means I will hit the bigtime tonight and not wear a hat. Ready or not here I come or is it ready set go !!!

Very new to this Alopecia...stuff.

December 13,2009 combing my hair to head to church I observe a missing clump in the part i usually have. The missing portion is the size of my small fingernail. Next day it is the size of a golf ball. Next day it is as big as a baseball..cripes whats going on.

Went to the doctor and learned a new word Alopecia.

Went to Joe Shmo the barber and he said he could fix it with a different style and we could do a comb-over.Told Mr. Schmo no… Continue

Thank you for the gift Rick! You are so kind and so right about the spirit of the people who contribute to this site. We alopecians have encountered people who don't have alopecia who were insensitive. So we ensure that this site is a sanctuary safe place to be ourselves. It's such a gift! Happy Valentine's to you and your lady!

Thanks for leaving me a comment Rick. Yes, do indeed have some hair now, but that wasn't the case only a few months ago. Like yourself, started with small spots that became big spots, which made friends with MORE spots. It was touch and go for a bit, but glad to have some regrowth back (and praying that they stay put!). How are you holding up?

BTW, the Elvis "do" was a prior pic where I had to keep things un-Godly long to cover up. Thanks for reminding me to update the status though!

Wow cool real log huh? Mine is stuff called sing-log its a composite wood leggo made from fir mill ends, check it out online, easy to insulate and wire. That house on the lake is like a 5 1/2 hour drive from where I mostly live but only an hour 15 flight so not to bad when the weather gives me a break. Where in CO are you, my ex sister in law, still good friend is in Castle Rock.

Hi Rick, Thanks for the comments. I forgot that I am luckier than most (I rarely think about my condition); having Alopecia Universalis is easier than the patchy stuff. I don't have to deal with that any more, I shaved the last patches off in 1995 & the hair has stayed away. I think the patchy stuff is much harder to deal with than no hair at all, it was liberating for me to shave off the final annoying threads of hair......good luck on your journey. P.S. I like to think we are a higher form of humans; we are so smart our hair got pushed right off our scalps! LOL
