I have heard of sending a wig in for repair. What does that entail exactly? I have a 3/4 wig, medium or shoulder length. A couple times it has gone through what seems like a shed! I go through a couple-week period where more than a few hairs come out every time I run my fingers through it (which is often during the times I am worried about it), and there always seems to be some on my clothing and extra in the brush. I am careful of it and carefully untangle and unsnarl, but at least twice it has gone through a period of a heavier loss than normal. Since what comes out, won't grow back, I wonder what to do down the line when it gets sparse and too thin.

So when you send a wig out for repair, do they sew more hair in? Is that so expensive that it makes more sense to just buy new? Mine is a human hair. Not sure if HH wigs can even BE repaired. It is fine right now, but I always cope better when I have information at hand and a plan to fall back on. I was diagnosed in June 2009, so this is my first experience with prosthetic hair pieces! Any advice? Thanks!

Hello!
Do you have a Lace wig? If so, They can be repaired! Hair can get added to the wig. If you keep finding hair on your clothes and running your fingers through your and the hair is shedding like you mentioned. I could be a manufactures defect!

I am not sure if I have a lace cap or not. The hair place didn't actually give me a name. For the descriptions I read I think it is. It is cloth like though very thin, breathable, and is sort of mottled colored so it looks shaded like real scalp. Do you know if it is worth the money to get them repaired rather than repalced?

Hi Barbara,
Almost all human hair can have hair added regardless of the base. But how old is your wig? If it is shedding, you need a qualified person to take a look and see if the hair is breaking or the knots are loosening. Knots can loosen if you are using to much conditioner on the cap of your wig. Ventilating work (adding hair) costs about $50.00 to $70.00 per hour.

thanks Janet. the shedding and breaking stopped a lot, and I use different products than I did before, but good to know about the repair. Mine is a year old and I was told that the life is about 2-4 years. So planning ahead!
