Conventional beauty standards be damned!

Sometimes I feel like shaving my head just out of spite!

Yeah, I have cicatricial alopecia that has left some interesting "spaces" in my TWA, so I guess I have a good enough "reason" to shave, but I don't really need to yet.

What really gets me going is the experiences that ladies here are sharing. What gives anyone the right to denigrate a person for something they have ABSOLUTELY no control over? The hurt that has been experienced over this is maddening to me.

How is this my problem you ask? Well, it isn't really since I still have most of my hair and can still conceal the holes. But, do I have to personally experience poor treatment to find poor treatment of others distasteful?

I feel like shaving my head, waiting for a confrontation from some less than couth individual and then letting them have it. Then hopefully the next time they encounter a bald woman, that if they can't refrain from being disrespectful, they'll keep their darn mouth shut.

**Yeah, I know this could backfire horribly, so right now I'm only imagining it in my head. :(

There has been many times that I have that internal dialogue that says "I dare you to say anything.....Go ahead I dare ya" But I never said that out loud to anyone (yet...LOL)
On the flip side tho, when I decided to shave my head it was all to do with the fact that I no longer could clean my hair off the floor and out of the drain daily. It was just too painful. Also I felt that I was spending way too much time focusing on the bald areas and not on my "true" reflection.
If and when you ever decide to shave, do it for yourself and to heal your soul.

"BUT what makes it ok is when they see I am a functioning, productive attractive woman that prefers to always move forward and not let the small things block my positivity! Having Alopecia almost all my life has taught me tolerance, unconditional love, patience, forgiveness and for that I will always be grateful to be bald!".......

Couldn`t have said it better Stacey!!.... Love that line!....

Beautiful words, Stacey.

The situation isn't going to change until WE change it by simply making a bald woman LESS of a strange sight. The only way to do that is to go out in public bald. Bald women are oddities because there are so few seen. The revolution starts here - it's in our hands, (and on our heads). ( ;-)

Hey ladies,

Thanks for the words of understanding and encouragement. Didn't mean to go off half-cocked, but I was irritated and had to let it out before I burst.

Terri: I understand. Crazy self-talk can can cause premature actions. (What is too funny is that since I ranted about this on Monday, my Mommy wig has arrived and the darn thing doesn't fit!! If I want to use it I'm at least gonna have to do a big chop. How funny is the Universe!?!?)

Stacey: I have to co-sign with Tink, Kathleen and Carmela! Well said. I struggle each day not to let others rob me of my positivity, but I'm improving each day.

Mary: I agree. And, as Terri pointed out, I'm going to try to handle it at the appropriate time, not just because I'm especially irritated and spoiling for a confrontation. **giggle** I can see it now on the 11:00 news, "Crazed bald woman pushes rude passerby onto the train track in front of Reliant Plaza. Full story after a word from our sponsor." **giggle**

Woooo-ssssaaaaaahhhhh! :)
