Why yes, it *is* a wig actually

So my husbands parents came to visit this past weekend. This is stressful enough...I'm particularly depressed when they arrive and the Husband has to coax me out of the bedroom, wanting to all go down to the Wild West days they had at the historical district of town. So I drag myself out of bed and get dressed and go outside to say hello to his folks.Mother in law notices my blonde hair (the best shape of a wig I currently have) and freaks out, she goes on and on about how much she misses my…See More

Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I first realized something was wrong when I was 6 years old. I was playing behind the couch and ran my hands through my hair to detect a nickel sized bald spot. I stayed quiet about it, thinking I would get in trouble.

By the time I was 12, I couldn't hide it any longer, I had so many spots converging together that the back of my head looked like a cheap Barbie doll's and a stiff breeze would reveal my Alopecia. My mother took me to a dermatologist who gave me steroid that didn't work. I dealt with it the rest of my life, never able to even wear a ponytail.

Between 20 and 30 my hair grew a lot, I'd still have a few spots here and there but most of my hair was waist length and thick, and could cover it well. I always had to wear it down though, or the bald patches on the sides would show.

When I turned 36 I moved to Spokane. I don't know if it was the climate, sorry from missing my family, poor diet or all of the above, but I lost all of my hair on my entire body, including brows and lashes within a few months.

Nowadays, I'm just looking for a reason to get out of the bed in the morning.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia universalis
Are you age 18 or older?

Three months

I've really let myself go. I don't even know the creature that looks back at me so sadly from the other side of the mirror. It took about three months to go from missing spots in my hair to no hair, no lashes, no brows, no anything. It took about three months to go from curvy and carrying a few extra pounds to not being able to fit into any of my clothes. It took about three months to go from being depressed to seriously contemplating all of my darkest thoughts.

I feel so disgusted… Continue

Interesting that you acquired more hair loss in your 30s, and after a move to a new area. I had regrowth from small child/teen AA starting at age 20, but got AT, AU when I was in my late 30s, after kids, with rude in-law, and with both the introduction of pets into our household and a move to a house with different water source (rural irrigation district). I sure wish I knew what triggers the genetic alopecia WE WERE BORN WITH to come and go at certain times of our life, don't you?
