- I am 44 years old and I am currently working overseas. My hair started thinning out around 1996 and I was diagnosed with scarring alopecia in 1998. Currently, I am partially bald just in the crown area and part of my frontal hairline. I've been seeing a dermatologist for the past 4 years; I get steroid injections in my scalp and I also apply a topical steriod and Rogaine to my scalp for treatment. I am working up the nerve to shave my head; I am tired of wearing wigs and weaves but I have not gotten there yet.
