Hi Phyllis,

I'm sorry if you took my comment to Pat to imply that men with AA don't have difficulties, or that young boys or teens aren't particularly subject to ridicule. I wasn't responding to a teenage boy with AA, or the parent of one, when I responded to Pat. I was responding to an adult man who looks more like a "normal" person out in public than I do. I don't mean to be unsupportive of anyone with AA...I think my posts and my creation of International Alopecia Day make that clear.

I meant what I said to Pat....he may look different than other bald guys, but he doesn't look as different from other men as a bald woman looks from other women. I thought Jeffrey's eyebrow tattoos looked great from his photos, but Pat seems to reject that route.

I know how no eyebrows and no lashes look - that was me before I got the permanent makeup. I realize that that isn't an easy option for guys.

I wish your son well, and I can only hope that as he reaches an age when other young men are intentionally shaving their heads, he'll feel less conspicuous.

Hi Phyllis ..would LOVE to meet for coffee!!
Follea is human hair with or w/ o a " gripper ". Google it. I spoke with a young woman who loves them. They also have lace fronts or some even all lace so hairline looks natural. U need to see a. Follea Rep which we shockingly have in my small town of Rochester NY. They r based in San Diego or San Francisco! ! Can't remember. Call the 1-800# and they will tell the closest Rep. We happened to have loved ours(met her once 10 days ago). The consultation should b free. We haven't been give a price yet....probably about 3K ish. Of course I can't speak personally about it yet but if your son needs a new one please check them out. They advertise on away and I think people have blogged about them.
I know all about anxiety. Deal with it daily. Won't go there now. I am glad your son was accommodated in the dorm and doing well. I know its a tremendous relief for you. Will we EVER not have to worry? ?? Not fair! :( wish it were me but That's life.
Thanks so much for writing. U really made my day. I feel I suffer alone with this. My husband does not worry. I do enough for us both and then some.....thank goodness for my half ambien. My crutch for now.
Ttys I hope .....check out follea and let me know what u think. It is premium European hair that is processed as opposed to freedom wig which is virgin/ unprocessed. My daughter really wanted lace front which she doesn't have. Freedom doesn't do lace either.

Our 2 cyberhair pieces r from a local (live in Rochester btw) salon.she and I went for our annual fall w/e to NYC in November. I dragged her to a salon we were referred to by the head of support group in NYC. Andy alfieri in Manhattan. We didn't go but also referred to "Chevy's " in Brooklyn. It is 4000sf and was told biggest on site selection in world. We couldn't go and they were havingan event there with a celebrity stylist. I am getting better at accepting what has been dealt and know. It Will get better and better with time. As I said in my profile if only it were me. Never in a million would I have imagined how caustic psychologically this condition is but also know it could b much much worse. I can give u my cell phone if u ever want to call or text .I have a work email also which may be better B's c it goes tightrope my phone. I got the color ring from shuangyewig which I was referred to by Karen Smith on here. They come directly from China. $400-500

Oops I mistakingly sent /that last messagebefore I was done.she was on the mtx for at least 6 mo.as I said no side effects that we noticed but there can be other issues r/t to it down the road. Our derm was comfortable putting her on it. The way I look at treatment perse for alopecia is the meds may jumpstart or enhance spontaneous growth but alopecia does what it does regardless of intervention. That is my opinion of course. She has told me to stop worrying about it b/ c she doesn't. I just odered a color ring for human hair pieces on line. Did u order on line or from a salon? I live in NY ..I'm glad your son is doing well in college. Ill b going through that worry in a ye and a half. We were introduced to a 22 yo grad student with au since age 16 that lives here.she's an amazing role model. So positive! She told me have no expectations and you'll never b let down. That is the approach we r taking right now ....thanks for writing. It helps to talk.

Hi Phyllis. Cindy is not my name b/ c if or when my daughter finds out I'm on here I will b in huge trouble. She does not like me talking about her At All.she gets very upset.she lost her hair in about 10 days during final exams freshman year.she's a Jr now.she wore a hat for 14 mo pulled down low.she started wearing cyberhair this past August which has made a world of difference in confidence and acceptance. Like u I don't sleep well.I still think/ worry about her nonstop. The only treatment we r doing currently is topical steroid soln on her eyebrows.as far as I know that is the only regrowth she's had after al the meds we've tried.
