My 4 year old daughter had her first patch in Nov. 2008 soon after she began losing all her hair. The past few weeks she began losing lashes and brows....it has been really hard for me...she loved her long hair....and she keeps stroking the few hairs she has left and saying look mommy my hair is getting longer...I don't know how to tel her that it probably wont ever be long again...I hope this site helps...looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Hi Lilly,

How are you doing today? I too have a daughter with alopecia. She will be 7 next month. She was diagnosed at 4 when I started noticing quarter size patches of hair missing from her scalp. It has been hard for me as well not knowing when and if her condition will get worse. The hardest part for me is when she keeps insisting on wearing her hair in a pony tail which causes her bald spots to show. It doesnt bother her in the least. She says she is happy with her hair. I just worry about the future when she becomes a teenager and her hair will matter to her. I am just grateful I have the support from everyone on this site. I thought I was alone in this and now I know I am not. i hope to hear from you. Take care....

Hello and welcome, Lilly!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women and girls were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!
