- I developed alopecia six years ago after having a beautiful head of curly, red locks for 43 years. My hair fell out in two months. I tried cortisone shots with no luck and refused to take mega doses of steroids. Four years later I started using acupuncture in my scalp and my hair has been growing (as well as eyelashes and some armpit hair) although there are some patches of non-growth. I still wear my wig.
