I love not having to spend the money on hair products! (I'm a cheap college student...) I never had to shave before I became AU, all my friends are jealous.

I totally agree with that. I love that I don't have to take the time anymore for all that "routine" stuff. Bad part is, the kids run out of shampoo alot and Mom doesn't know LOL

The best parts for me are the no shaving (I could never do the waxing thing even when I had hair), the permanent makeup - eyebrows and eyeliner, the always look good hairstyle, and being ready in half an hour in the morning!

I went to a permanent makeup. Make sure you check and see if they do good work. I have heard of gals getting their eyebrows done and they were messed up. I did have to have mine redone last year cause they faded over the years.
But, if you use sunscreen~(like they tell you) you probably will not have to redo them.
I say go do it.. When I got mine done, I was soo happy.. I dont have to worry about them, they are just always there. kinda like my hair was for years.

Hmmmm, I don't have a red mark either. I do have a question for you girls on the tattooing thing. Is it pretty expensive? Normal tattoo shop do it? I really hate applying mine every darn day. Especially the occasional rub of the eyes and there goes half an eyebrow. OOPS. that and trying to get them even, usually takes at least 3-4 tries.

Hi again. Nicole and I both have that red birth mark on the back of our necks. Hers gets very red when she is shedding. Don't know if that means anything or not just the way it is.

Hi there our daughter Nicole will be 12 on the 17th of this month and has AU. It is nice to have this site not only for her to come to but for us as we support her growing up with this disease. Look forward to reading and learning lots.

Hi all! Ha Mary thanks for the ups of AU. I totally agree with them! My fav part is changing my hair with my mood! I guess that is for Alopecians in general though. The no shaving takes the cake. Anyway I do also have a red birthmark on my back of my head... so weird!

Losing my eyebrows and lashes was extremely hard for me. I always had such dark ones that I didn't wear makeup. The photo of me here is before I lost them. My YouTube video is after. The absolute BEST thing I did (after shaving my head and going bald) was the tattooing. I love waking up with eyes. Aside from a little shadow sometimes, I don't apply any eye makeup now.

I've completely lost track of what I've posted where, apologies to those of you who've seen this already....But, for all you AU women in this group, here (once last time) are my Top 10 Benefits of Alopecia Universalis:

The Top 10 Benefits of Alopecia Universalis:

10. The smoothest, silkiest legs ever, with no shaving, razor burns, or stubble.

9. Totally hair-free underarms, and no post-shaving pain when you apply deodorant.

8. Never any embarrassment when you “forgot to shave” your legs or armpits. And, no “short and curlies” peaking out of your swimsuit!

7. Instant relief from overheating (particularly in the event of a hot flash) – by simply taking off whatever is covering your scalp.

6. Salesclerks, public employees, and just about everyone you meet is really nice to you when you’re a bald woman.

5. There’s no need to take a shower before you go out just so your hair will look good.

4. You never have to pluck your eyebrows (or your chin, if you’re middle-aged).

3. No more bleaching or waxing that pesky upper lip hair.

2. If you’ve had permanent eyebrows and liner applied, you never have to spend time (or money) on eye makeup.

And the #1 benefit of Alopecia Universalis:

1. You never have to worry about “a bat in the cave” – no hair in the nostrils means no boogers can get caught there!

I miss my eyelashes most, they were very long and thick. I do have my eyeliner and eyebrows tattooed on now and that has helped loads.
I do not have the red mark tho x
