Mendocino 2011 Albanian Student Ensemble Gajdexhi

The final tune of another medley at the 2011 Balkan Music & Dance Worshop. Watch for the fun "choreography" that I'm doing with the other frame drummers (I'm in the middle in the black head scarf, having a blast). The frame drums are the circular things with the jingles.

This music reminds me of the year I hung with a roommate and her Balkan dancing friends from Hayward State College. I think I saw her in your video (tall brunette in back of the singers)!

I am a fan of Taraf De Haidouks, and the movie Gypsy Caravan. (Johnny Depp is, too! He translated for Taraf at an awards ceremony.) You should see some footage of the group when the old man with the fiddle was still alive....amazing.

Your camp looked like a lot of fun. Thanks for posting!

I know that band and have one or two of their CDs.

Thanks for checking out the video - I figure it's the best way to give non-folk dancers an idea what this is that I'm doing (and why I missed NAAF this year) ( ;-)
