I’m feeling sorry for the cat. She’s shedding something terrible. Aside from the hair balls, there’s hair everywhere…in the shower clogging the drains, on the floor sticking to my feet, on the counters and in my food. Oh wait, that’s my hair.

Made a trip to the docs yesterday just to make sure something insidious isn’t lurking below the surface. Knowing that I’m 40 something, he began with a well rehearsed ‘it’s natural at your age to start losing your hair” speech. I’m pretty sure I’d heard this one at least once before. Opting not to sit through the rerun, I snapped the band off my pony tail and pulled up my hair to reveal a large patch of scalp. His face said it all. “That’s what you meant when you said your hair was falling out.” “Yeah, I’m thinking of renting it out as billboard space and I figured I’d give you first shot.” We laughed as he tossed the Rogaine pamphlet aside. Note to self…very important to have a doc you can talk to…even more important to have one that listens.

We reviewed the recent course of events as well as previous history. Nothing remarkable surfaced except been there, done that, bought a gross of bandanas to cover my head the last time around. Paid the bill then off to the lab for obligatory blood work to rule out thyroid, infections, ‘guy’ problems and the like. A four tube’r…no big deal even if the phlebotomist was less than gentle. I’ve had so many blood test over the past few years that I should have a spigot installed in my arm. The results should be back before the holiday weekend. Not very optimistic that they will give much indication of what is going on but I’ll leave the razor in the cabinet for now…I’ve dealt with it this long, what’s another few days. In the mean time, nothing to do other than sit, wait & shed some more…

I'm sure everything is fine. But good to be safe and have the bloodwork done to be sure.

Cats are sneaky, always skulking around, pretending like they are asleep. If you look carefully, you'll see they always have one eye open...watching, waiting. Thinking back, she started licking my head just before I started to lose my hair...wonder if there is a connection...not that I'm paranoid or anything.
