"You look great in that buzz and seem to be totally accepting of your AA.  I shaved (down to the scalp) mine New Years Eve '16 after about a 80-90% loss in only two weeks fron AU.  I figured, why look like Betelguese with just a few…"

hagster replied to Patchylatchy's discussion For those of you with alopecia universalis like myself at what age did you develop it?
"1 patch of AA at age 50.  Nothing more until AU at age 65.  AU followed 2 other autoimmune diseases I got the previous year.  "

hagster replied to Mlou's discussion Newbie with AU I think!
"Alopecia Universalis is an autoimmune disease and can only be inherited if both parents are carriers - which is pretty rare. I lost all my scalp hair in less than two weeks and the rest of the hair on my body in another two weeks.  Mine was…"

"Its my feeling that whats gonna happen is gonna happen, whether it be spontaneous remission, hair loss, or hair growth.  Alopecia has a mind if its own and treats everyone who has it differently. I would never allow my 2 year old to be given…"

"Sorry, what doesn't work if you have AA?   And, by making them look natural with a bald head, are you asking about a lace front?  Here's a pic of me with a lace front and I'm completely bald.  Actually, any wig is…"

hagster replied to laurenseav's discussion Is Olaplex bath worthwile to repair an over processed human hair wig?
"Olaplex will condition a human hair wig.  I believe the gal who mentioned chloride means a bleach bath, which you would not use on human hair.  It is more for synthetics.  Sounds like you need to refurbish your wig, but what you do…"

hagster replied to Marieca's discussion Wig Gripper

Not sure if i have AU, I just know the loss started Oct 16 and has continued to now where i have less and less hair on my entire body. Just slowly all going away. No indication it will stop....

That sound like AU to you? My doctor said very little the one time I spoke w him about it--i believe bc little is known and he is not the type to offer guesswotk or theory.

But holy shit, i didnt know even xeljanz didnt work for AU, and i hadnt thought about the potential physical side effects you mentioned. Yay. Looks like im gonna be reading all the mantras i collected when this first got bad again! Lol

thanks for your time.

I too grew up in the 50's and 60's and I hardly ever read of anyone getting Alopecia when they are middle aged. While I found my first spot last August, it got bigger. Only I could see it unless I pulled my hair back. More spots came and hair grew back. Again I am losing hair, but no one can see but me and my hair stylist. I commend all the people that have self acceptance but I wonder if the older you are at the time of the fist occurrence the more self conscious you are.
