Engaged to be married on 12th June 2008 in Greece to my wonderful fiance. Really looking forward to it.

I've just recently been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata.

Recently went to see a dermatologist who took a photo of my bald patch and said, and I quote 'just try to think positively'. Ok thanks for that Dr!!!

Hey there NIc,
my mum was diagnosed with alopecia last year, and unfortunately she dealt with it quite badly. As a result when it came to doing my dissertation at uni, I thought looking into the affects hair loss has in women would be an interesting eye opening topic to research. I however need to carry out some interviews with women in the UK suffering from alopecia, so if you would be willing to take part let me know, if not no problem.

Thanks a mill!

Hey Nic, How's it going? I'm from Aberdeen too!! Yey!
I have AU, and have had if for about 4 months now...at Christmas I was a full natural blonde, but not so much anymore. I have already got myself some great wigs though, and am pretty pleased with it all! Although you may be a bit annoyed at your GP for saying what he did unfortunately its probably all he could say as the general concensus is that there is not a lot to help or prevent it. Anyway, I know a great dermatologist in Aberdeen, if you want I can give you his name. He told me what was happening, honestly and then helped me to deal with it. He also told me about all the different treaments available and wht is good and bad about them. He really knows his stuff and is very kind.

Anyway, I hope that things do get better for you and us lot are always here for those random alopecia questions you wouldn't dare to ask anyone else!
Cheers

Hiya Nic,
Have you received a diagnosis for your hairloss? I'm AA but I have seen a dermatologist through the NHS but only to learn that there isn't a lot I can do. But it does all depend on what's causing your hairloss so I'd definitely look into it all a bit further.
If you have any questions on talking to your GP etc, just let me know. I'm not an expert but it was about five years ago that I first started talking to my GP about my alopecia.

Hi Nic, I read your comment concerning whether you should see a Dermatologist or not. Well in my opinion you should def go see one if you want to seek treatment. My Dermatologist is not only the reason why I have the hair that I do....but she's also a huge emotional support.
