About Me:
I noticed a small bald spot a few months ago, and tried to forget about it... Meanwhile it grew and grew, and more spots appeared, so I broke down and went to the doctor. She said alopecia areata, and started the steroid shots treatment for the large spot, topical steroid for the smaller ones. The hair is still coming out pretty fast, but I do understand it can take quite a while for the cycle to work it's way through... so I found this site, and hope to meet some people who are going through similar things.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

it's been a while...and another derm update!

Posted on February 2, 2010 at 10:53pm 1 Comment

I've been a little less active than I'd like lately on AW, but work has me crazy right now... they shipped me to Indiana for some GM testing a few weeks ago, then transferred me to a new store, so I had to move... I'm in my new place now, not quite unpacked, but wanted to drop a line to my AW friends while I can...

I went back to the derm today... on a good note, the biggest spot is significantly smaller now, and a few of my smaller spots are gone! I DO have some regrowth!! The white… Continue

New Year, New Me!

Posted on January 1, 2010 at 1:00am 8 Comments

So tonight was my night! I'd planned to shave, but at the last minute, clippers in hand, I went short buzz instead. Still I feel liberated, and I know I'll not have to deal with those long hairs all over the place that are still shedding so severely! I did find a few more bald spots in this process, which was a little disheartening, but I know it's all part of the AA process, so I didn't grieve over them, just looked then moved on. I might go all the way bald quite soon, but for now, the super… Continue

Derm update today

I went back to the dermatologist today for a follow up after my first round of steroid shots 8 weeks ago. She said she does see a little bit of regrowth! Although it's just a little, and the other hairs are still coming out like crazy, I'm still going to go ahead and shave/buzz it all off on NY Eve. I figure it's a good way to ring in the new year, which I can't wait for. 2009 hasn't been kind to me, with a bad breakup after 9 years, the passing of my Grandfather, after his short, but hard… Continue

A rant, and a rave?

Posted on November 26, 2009 at 11:21pm 10 Comments

Well my journey with AA has been bumpy so far. And I'm sure that has been the story for many at the first stages. I'm still adjusting, and have my good days and bad. I'm sure I'm not alone in that, and don't want to sound whiny at all, but something happened today that hurt. And I've not had to feel this way before...

But before all that, I'll start with the good. Over the past couple weeks, I've been wearing my wigs. On the very first day I wore my first one, I had an interesting… Continue

Hey Callie,

Love the pictures!

I know what you mean about being busy!! I am working 3 jobs.

I am in Ohio all the time.

I have worn a vacuum hairpiece since 1989!!! I still love it. I went to King's Island and went down a waterslide!!!

Let me know if I can help.

Oh that's so cool, that is a good way to start the new year indeed!
It makes your wig stronger on your head (if you millimeter your hair) which is good, and it feels funny, haha.
Let me know if/when you've done it !

Hey Callie,
Hope the winter blahs aren't getting you too down. Sometimes shedding can also get worse during the winter season. Hang in there! No matter what your hair does you'll still be looking great. So I hope you feel better soon! Happy Holidays
P.S. - What an awesome dog you have!

HI Callie - wanted to drop in to see how you were doing. Bit of a quiet Friday night for me, but quiet is good sometimes right? Hope you're doing well.

Thanks Callie for the kind words! Everyday brings good and bad things, huh? Hopefully more good will start happening soon. Your comments really helped me feel better about myself and this situation. Thanks SO much again
