Walking at my snail pace just doesn't get my heart rate up...can't go fast because of polymyalgia and can't jog anymore :( Still going regularly to gym using weights but would love to get my heart pumping again. So, bought a skipping rope yesterday and will see if that helps. I'm thinking it won't hurt my hips as there's virtually no movement except jumping! Also practicing daily with my new found passion - hooping :)) If nothing else it makes me feel good.

Beth, I used to wear a silicone freedom suction wig and unless the temperature was very cool it was far too hot to run in. Then I went to lace wigs which allowed my scalp to breath - much much better. No matter what I did I also got real red in the face so always wore foundation makeup when I ran so I didn't glow so much :) I also have permanent eye makeup. It sounds to me more about your confidence than a sweaty appearance as everyone is sweaty after a workout. With any exercise it's about not looking your best and it's not expected to be. The sweatier the better!

I'll all about trying to get in shape which is one thing I should have control over, but what to wear? I'm 31, single and would love to join running, sports, swimming groups to meet people, get fit etc. but I end up looking like a drenched sewer rat. I have semi perm makeup which does not look real unless it is covered by more makeup, a heavy fiberglass vacuum hairpiece and some extra love that needs covering up. Tried the bandana's, "hats with hair", waterproof makeup etc but haven't found anything to break a sweat in while feeling confident enough to socialize. Any suggestions???

I recently joined another gym, a 24 hr one, which is really good and went at 7pm tonight but I usually go around 9 am sometimes a little later in the morning. Usually only half a dozen people there at that time. Between 4-7pm is the worst time - too many people for my comfort zone.

I go to the gym 3 days a week around 930am as a general rule. Get my cardio in and a few weights. Workout, sweat and go. I wont be doing another "after work" workout again!

Jeffrey, I know what you mean. I go to the gym regularly five times a week and I've been at it for the past two and a half years (off and on for about the past twelve). New Years is always a really weird time at the gym. I would love for everyone to stick to the resolution, but my experience tells me New Years is not a good starting point for a lot of people. Threaten them with shirtless summers, however, and they jam.

Ugh...I went to the gym at 530pm and it was packed. All those New Year Resolutions. I'm lucky I have time to workout mid mornings. I'll stick with that routine.

Hi all- great to find a group who believes as I, that AA can be slowed down, maybe even minimized by good healthy living and stress reduction.

Have been diagnosed with ploymyalgia rheumatica...no wonder I was in so much pain. The first day after taking prednisone I felt I could run a marathon! However now I'm slowly lowing the dose [down to 12.5mg] the pain is returning. But It's enabled me to go back to the gym and also go for long walks. Still too stiff in my hips to jog but the fatigue is not as bad as it was before prednisone.
