I was at a salon getting eyebrow tatoos recently and the technician said he has had many clients with alopecia and many of them experience memory loss.
I, myself, have memory loss but didn't think it was related in any way to alopecia...just thought it might be a stress response. Does anyone have this linkage? Just curious.

I can relate to the memory problems.....and losing the thread half way through a sentence.....and have put it down to the menopause. This has got me wondering though if my AA is related to hypothyroidism. I have a strong family history of thyroid problems but I always test negative. I've heard that thyroid tests are not too accurate as the 'normal' range is vast. Hmmm, more research necessary!
Thanks for your post Marjorie! I thought I might have been the only one. :)
Yah, but I chaulk this up to the fact that you block ceratin stessful times out of your mind. I have wierd memories of things when I was younger that seem to pop now for no reason at all? It is as if my brain is healing and allowing certain things to come back. For example the other day I remembered have this certain backpack when I was a kid, it was a black patch leather bag, i loved it and now I remember everything about it, how it did up, where the pocket was, carrying it to school ect. But a few months ago my mom mentioned when I had taken this coarse at a community college about 15 years back with a friend... I had absolutelly memory of this what so ever! I didn`t remember going to the school, the coarse I took, the fact that my mom would take us and pick us up, what the inside of the building looks like...nothing what so ever! My mom is dumb founded by this, and can`t understand how it is possible that I can`t remember a single thing! Very weird! I assume something was stressful at that specific period in my life to have completely blocked this period of time out. The brain is a strange thing, and maybe in some way it is protecting us from being overtaken by what has been dealt to us. Leanne.
Gosh too weird, I thought I was just getting old, :).....@ 44...Not yet, but it would explain alot, I find I second guess stuff sometimes. Something to maybe ask my Derm Dr this month when I go for those dumb injections in the head, gosh they really hurt, & make me nauseous for a few hrs. ????????? anyone else feel the same way? Have a good day. Denise
Yes I do but I thoughtmaybe its my age in my 40's

Brave you getting your eyebrows tattooed - I want to but have not yet plucked up the courage. I also suffer from memory loss but thought it was just me having 'senior moments'.
Hahah! Funny stuff, Diana. Pluck up the courage and go for it! It's not like a conventional tatoo...it doesn't hurt and also fades within a year or two. So although it's obvious at first, it lightens. If you don't go black, it also doesn't turn blue like some tatoos.
Hi Melissa. Interesting that you ask this question. I too suffer from memory loss or foggyness at times. My doctor didn't mention to me that it could be related...maybe because I am in my 40's. When I first started losing my hair at 43 my memory was extremely foggy in the middle of my cycle. Weird feeling..my children would say that I answered their questions with the wrong topic etc and that I would look spacey at times. Thank you for putting the question out their as it seems that i am not alone.
I started having a "foggy mind" about the time the hair loss started. Thought it was a perimenopausal symptom. I've since read there may be some connection with hypothyroid. My thyroid tests were within normal limits. It helps to know others experience the same thing.
I've just been diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopeica and was nlown away by your comment because in the last year or 2, I've experienced many "holes" in my memory. Weeeeird. Wondering now if there is a connection!
Iv done a little research into memory, as my immediate memory is appauling but my long term memory is extremely good almost photographic.

You can easily remember 7 items in your short term memory, anything more then that you will forget. The only way to remember things is to keep going over them (five minutes afterwards, then 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months) after youv learnt them.

I do hav a gut syndrome which one symptom is fuzzy thinking, and poor memory recall.

I do believe more and more that Alopecia is from the gut, thats were the majority of the immune system is. It just amazes me that science has yet to find an answer for it.
I have the worst memory. I never thought it could be related to alopecia..
