My 5 yr old was diagnosed with AA last Thursday, although we're still waiting for the results from the culture to come back. The Dr. said he was 95% sure that he has AA but wanted to make sure that there is no fungus. Looking at pictures of AA, I haven't seen any that looks like what my son has. I got his hair cut about three weeks ago, noticed a small dime size bald spot and today it's about the size of a silver dollar. There's no redness, pus or rings but looks like dandruff with some hair still in the follicles. I rubbed his head with a wash cloth and a significant amount of hairs were on the cloth. My questions to any of you with AA, did yours ever look like what I am describing? How much hair did you lose in a three week period? Have you found putting oil or cream on the scalp makes the flakes less, if so, what kind? Any info is welcome!! Thank you in advance for your answers and help!

I think AA varies for everyone, some it is one patch and it can be a while before another patch happens, but some people can loose it really quicky. Sorry not sure about cream or lotions

good luck with everything. I think the first few weeks are the hardest. xox Nikita
My little girl started off with a dime size spot too, and within a few days it was bigger. Its like very time her hair falls out it always starts off as a dime size perfect circle. I have a picture of her where her hair at her neck line fell out a year ago but its since started to grow back but if you look on the lift side you will see a dime size spot that has chosen not to grow back. At four I took her to the derm and he said we needed to do the shots, so I put her through 35 injections in her head at one time, and it will never happen again. Sallys has hair products for extremely thinning hair that we are just "trying". Because "trying" never hurts
Thanks for the reply! You're daughter is beautiful!! Trying never does hurt...What is the name of the hair product that you're using? Maybe we'll check it out. I just bought a bunch of hats for him at Children's Place. They were cheap and cute...not that he even cares about his bald spot though....More protection from the sun than anything. The injections don't sound pleasant. I think we'll postpone on those for a while. Thanks for your feedback! It's been tough for me...he's totally cool with it!
