I guess I'm having a reaaaally bad week, I'm missing my eyelashes more than ever. I got a new full lace wig (I call it my hair by the way, hate the word wig) recently and I love it , so i don"t really care about being bald. Got my eyebrows tattoed and I like them so that is OK. But my eyelashes can't be replaced...I don't wear the fake ones unless going to a party or something like that but even when I do, it's just not the same ...Lost my eyelashes 6 months ago and I wonder if they will ever grow back. I really need them...

Hi Gina,
I really know what you're going through with the eyelashes....I don't mind that much about being bald & I also have tattoed eyebrows but the one thing I want back is my eyelashes! No one can tell you if they're going to come back or not, alopecia has a mind of its own. I lost mine a year with no sign of regrowth at all :( And yeah, fake eyelashes really don't cut it, do they? I wear mine for special occasions too but they're just not the same and also not that comfortable. I usually just use eyeliner to give the illusion of a lash line. I've found that people really don't notice I don't have eyelashes unless I tell them. While I would dearly love them back, it really is possible to live a 'normal' live without them!

Hey Gina.

I got ONE eyebrow now and some eyelashes....so so crazy :p...but I know its "important" for a woman/girl to have it.

Take care, Roger.

Like Karina I generally apply eye liner and no one notices until I say something. There is a permanent make-up application you can get like tattooing your brows only it needs to be redone every so often but it's always there. Maybe that would help you feel more comfortable. To Roger - it's important for anyone to have eyebrows and eye lashes because they keep out sweat and dirt. Not having them bothers most men just as much as it does women and men have also been known to get tattoos and certain permanent make-up applications to make up for their lack thereof.

I feel you with the eyelashes -- I used to have long, thick eyelashes that made my eyes stand out way more than they already do. I just recently lost my eyelashes and I kid you not, my eyes have been itching, stinging, and burning ever since then because every little speck of dust, mold, and anything else that happens to float on the wind gets into my eyes. Honestly, I wear glasses, and because I'm near-sighted my lenses magnify my eyes even more than they need to be -- but nobody in 26 years has ever noticed that I don't have any eyelashes when they fall out, so in that sense, it's easy to be normal when nobody notices that it's gone.

HHAAA haa I was walking around with one eye brow for as long as I could stand until I finally went in and got a steroid shot to get the left one back. IT WORKED!! I actually had to go back one more time to get the other one thickened up to match! Soo 2 shots and I've had them both for 6 months now. I really hope they stay. It's at least easy for a guy to shave his head these days and be OK. I have to shave my stupid head about every 2 hours though because the few patches of hair I have grow like weeds. Pain in the butt to walk around all day with an electric in your pocket looking for a chance to "clean it up". ANyway I know how you feel about the eyelashes. I have 1 and 2/3 at the moment. Keep up the faith!

I recently lost my eyelashes too. I wear eyeliner and thought that looked ok till I saw myself in a photo. I don't even see the eyeliner. I need to put it on more heavily I think. I also have only one eyebrow - Pain in the butt to try and draw one to match! I tried the shots to keep my eyebrows when they started falling out and ended up with deep indentations above my brows. It took 6 months for those to go away. I won't get the shots again...

I am getting my eyelashes done. Yes, like some people I apply liner because it is the one crazy thing that stands out with out the liner. Hey, mine have been gone for 10 years so at this point I am tired of holding out and will just get the permanent makeup.

found this article about something that is supposed to grow eyelashes:
Latanoprost, a prostaglandin analog, has been reported to stimulate eyelash growth in patients using it in eye preparations for glaucoma and body and scalp hair growth when used topically in various animal models. Will prostaglandin analogs be the next agents used for forms of alopecia?
here is one of the articles: http://archopht.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/118/5/718
