- My mother lost much of her hair years ago, and did not handle it well. My thought back then (while my hair was still thick and healthy) was, if this ever happens to me, I'll make sure to handle it much better. Well, my hair eventually started to show signs of thinning a few years ago. As of today, I basically have a bald fuzzy head, with longer hair around the sides and back. Taking it in stride, I finally saw the need to start wearing wigs last year. My mother purposefully kept what hair she had left, enabling her to bobby pin her wigs, advising me to do the same. That didn't seem right for me. I actually desired the freedom of a nice bald head that my husband could snuggle up to and choose to wear a wig when I felt like it. Not knowing if that was a right or wrong feeling, I went on line a few months ago...and found you! I am so thankful for this site! I needed to find out if there were others who had already embraced what I was needing for myself. I shared my findings and feelings that night with my husband and mother, who were so supportive. I allowed some time to settle with my decision. This past weekend, I made the plunge, ordered two new wigs and my bond adhesive, preparing myself for the big shave. My wigs arrived just a few hours ago!
(1-18-12) Today, I have returned to Alopecia World for the boost of encouragement I need and to proudly join the others. Tonight my husband will shave my lovely little head.
About me...
I am a native of beautiful Orange County, California...a beach girl, who now resides in the midwest with my dear, native midwestern husband of 18 years and our wonderful son!
I am a professional, classically trained vocalist. I've taught Drama/Musical Theatre for k-12th grade, and 8th grade Speech for a wonderful Christian school. I have recently worked as a Chaplain, and now guest speak for Christian Women's events.
Thank you to all of you for sharing your comments, but most of all...the inspirational pictures of your beautiful bald heads!! I don't know you, but I love you for it!!!!!
My husband and I truly thank you!
(He called home from work while I typed this. We shed a few tears as I told him...tonight is the night.)
