About Me:
I'm 28 and recently diagnosed (Jan 2013) with alopecia areata. I am learning to cope with my new normal. I lost 40% of my hair in the 6 months between getting engaged and getting married, which was hard to swallow. Since then I've had some regrowth and some more loss. I have the ophiasis pattern, so I have a lovely tellum (i.e. reverse mullet), with a big huge bald spot on the back of my head. Thankfully I can hide it okay. I'm trying to stay positive and educate myself. I now have my first wig, but I'm holding off wearing it until my condition gets "bad enough"!
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?

Hi Bananarama, thanks so much for accepting my friend request. I appreciate your openness on this site and I like your sense of humor. I, too, am kind of shy. Striking up conversations at work or going out with friends and meeting new people at parties has been hard for me before I noticed my hair thinning, but now those types of things are even more difficult. I feel sort of wrapped up in tension and I feel unapproachable, taut. How did you maintain your warmth when you realizes you had AA? Can you speak to your experience as a fiancée and how you and your now-husband navigated this unexpected development? Was he able to understand your fears? How did you put your concerns aside to focus on the joy of your life together? (These are obviously very personal questions. I don't mean to pry; anything you can share would be much appreciated. Thank you!)

Sooooooo sorry I have not been on this site in ages! I was not ignoring your friend request.....I live in North Gower just south of Ottawa. How about you? Absolutely would love to meet you. Right now nopt feeeling so good but if you want to chat some time send me a message and we can arrange to chat on the phone. Hang in there. I have had Alopecia since 2008. I am ok with it now and am having a blast with my freedom vacuum hair pieces. I have been through all the emotions and realize that it is just hair and I am still me. after my surgery whenever that happens and I am healed up would love to meet you in person.
