Hi to one and all. Mark June 15th on your calendars because this is the day Alopecia NZ was born. Now to the working out of the nuts and bolts of what a charitable trust has to have. I need you to be part of a group of people that I can fire questions to and get feedback asap. The local community office will work with us and make sure we have everything done by the required time. If you can help please contact me back with an email address. We have a lot to do but we don't have to do it alone.

Our first response is to clarify our mission statement our objectives and our representative

I meet with the other folk who are getting our conference ready, on the 23rd and meet back with the community lawyer  on 29th June .

If you want to help I can email you our responses and put in your feedback too.

6 weeks until the South Island conference !! Full steam ahead with guest speakers, goodie bags and lots of support. For those interested, dont be worried that you have to speak or tell everyone everything about your alopecia. It will be an environment where if you want to talk then talk, but if you want to listen only then that is fine too. Its all about sharing, listening and learning.

Hi Ray, my heart goes out to you & your daughter!! My hair started to fall out when I was 12 (I'm now 34yrs) there are some awesome wig suppliers & options in NZ& online, it's always best if you can try before you buy!! There is government funding for wigs also so make sure to utelise that! There are a few things happening this year with the NZ Alopecia conference happening in Christchurch 21st Oct & international Alopecia awareness day 5th August!! for more info on whats happening around you can check out: https://www.facebook.com/NZAlopecia/ or https://www.alopecianz.co.nz/

Hi MummyWendy, I took my daughter to Oz a couple of years ago.  Her passport photo was when she was little and had a full head of hair.  When we went she had no hair, eyebrows or eyelashes and was wearing a beanie.  The customs person asked her to remove her beanie.  I explained why she was wearing it and they just asked her to pull it back so they could see all of her face - they were really good both ways.  I didn't have any issues.  Hope you have the same experience.  Cheers Kelly

I wondered if anyone has any experience of travelling through Customs in Australia or New Zealand with alopecia. My daughter's passport photo was taken a couple of years ago before her hair fell out. However, we are travelling from NZ to OZ soon and she has chosen to travel without her wig. I just had a terrible vision of being stopped at customs and them not believing her identity! If anyone has any experience or advice I'd love to hear it. Thanks!
