Comment by Terri on January 31, 2012 at 10:08pm that is wonderful Bruce. Nothing wrong at all with being told we look younger. LOL. I particularly enjoy when Im at the gym and while all the other ladies are blowing drying their hair, all I have to do is get dressed and walk out. So much easier and less time consuming.
Thanks, Terri. After 2 1/2 months, I'm chilling out. My family has been surprisingly low key about it. I think part of that may be that when I tried shaving my head in 1994, I had a full head of brown hair and now I had close-cropped white hair. Even my younger nephew (9) has gotten more used to it (initially he was weirded out by it and his big brother kept trying to put his hand on it-LOL). This weekend I met up with a big group of online friends and they all commented that it looked great or that I look younger (I never get tired of hearing that!!!)
I still have my moments, but a lot of the time I look in the mirror and think "this is OK--I can deal with this". I'm starting to like the fact that I'm not looking at Santa Claus in the face any more! Granted, I'll be glad not to have to shave as much. But I'm starting to see that "hair is overrated".
Comment by Rici* on January 31, 2012 at 9:12am hey there,
to my mind having bald spots and being bald is definetly underrated.
There is so much potecial for bald-spot-hairstyles and so many different beautifoul heads...
only because certain hairstyles are set as "normal" it dosn't mean, that other haairstyles and bald heads are not as normal and as beautifoul...
sometimes I wonder: what if all the people with hairtrouble would admit it... would it be more "normal"?
Comment by Terri on December 13, 2011 at 12:21pm Congrats Bruce. For me I found shaving the last of my hair off was more a release and taking back my choice. As oppose to letting alopecia decide how my hair was going to go. Its been 15 months since the day I shaved my head (Im AU everywhere else) and since that day my confidence has grown more and more. I have found that people have been receptive since then, more to do with my growing confidence Im sure. Even the "stares" I find I dont notice them as much and if I do I just tell myself that they are just jealous that I can pull off the look better than they could hope to. LOL.
Keep up the awesome work Bruce
Thank you all! It's been a month since I shaved my head after the AA got too bad. The biggest thing that has helped me has been the folks here who stand up and say "It's OK to be hairless". I confess I still have my ups and downs, but I've come to understand that most of my freakout was over a couple of things. 1. Even though I hate body hair and have trimmed and shaved over the years and also enjoyed shaving my head once 15 years ago (I liked it, but no one else did), I was hung up on the idea that "I chose that" and this time it chose me. 2. Eyebrows. So I'm getting there. I'm having more time when I'm OK with it than not. Plus someone told me I look younger! LOL
