Hi Raquel.  I found you on facebook, but you must have disabled adding friends cos there is no "add friend" icon on your profile page.  I did send you a message though.  Please look for it in your messages under "other".  I would love to connect with you as I have not found a single soul in SA who has this disease... And I would also love to connect with Ursula as I am interested in her Freedom wigs!  Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi,

I wear a Freedom Wig (vacuum hair piece) and am the agent in SA for Freedom NZ.

I do believe we need a group in SA.  I have quite a few ladies that I deal with in SA who have alopecia.

I am going to connect to Raquel's FB and would love to chat more as I can assist with the Freedom Wigs.

Hi all. I have come to the concvlussion that there is no awareness regarding Alopecia in SA. We need do start it! I cope with Alopecia Androgenica. I went "publicly" and feel free. I am still wearing wigs and always will as a nice to have and not because i need to hide my skinhead. In my instance i still have hair but too little to do something weith it. I tried everything and nothing works. Wigs is the only way. D' Or wigs and wig Beauty in midrand and centurion courier wigs all over SA. I went through asll the emotions and also had bad experiences when nying wigs. At this stage with rand dollar rates i buy from Wig Beauty bit i dont like the womens attitude. I do buy wigs from Voguewigs from USA when the Rand perform better.

I am located in pretoria. I am starting with awareness. I am doing photoshoot this week and the awareness will focus on twob things..1. That you are beautifull despite having a skinhead. Rather focus on what you have than what you dont have..and 2. As a Alopecian you will be ok!

There will be a few surprises aswell. I am writing a blog ( in afrikaans) living with Alopecia and i opened a facebook group named Alopecia South Africa. At this stage the group is open. You will also find me on facebook namely Raquel Lewis. Look for the skinhead picture. :)

Hi,

I just inquire if anyone have experience with SMP or similar product?

Here is the information again - unfortunately only available in the USA:

There is a permanent type of a solution for men called SMP® - it replicated shaven hair, so it gives a natural shaven appearance!  - see below.

But it is seems only be available in the USA! So do anyone know if there is similar solutions in SA?

SMP® is a highly advanced process, during which tiny deposits of specialist pigment are placed within the upper dermis of the skin. When applied by a skilled practitioner, these deposits accurately replicate real shaven hair follicles, and together provide an indistinguishable illusion of a real head of hair.

HI guys. I'm new to the group. I'm so happy to see that there are other people in my country willing to share their experiences on alopecia. I have had silently suffered with alopecia for 7 years now. However I have decided to take action now. Just 5 days ago on the 29 March I had a PRP injection. I'm very excited about it. I'll share my journey as it progresses.
