Hello,
I am 25 years old and have had alopecia totalis since birth. At 8 years old I got my first vacuum prosthesis of real human (European) hair from Wigs International out of Australia. I used Wigs International until they closed a few years ago. Since then I purchased a new European hair vacuum prosthesis from a different company and I am unhappy with it. There has been severe hair loss in many places, the hair has broken and looks dull after not even a year and a half. Being pretty much a life-long wearer of the vacuum pieces, I take excellent care of them and have never experienced something like this.

I am interested in hearing the experiences others have had with their vacuum pieces and from what company you have used. Recommendations please! I am only interested in the vacuum prosthesis with 100% unprocessed human hair.

Thank you!
Justine

Freedom Hair out of New Zealand.
Hi Justine,

My daughter is 20 and had AA since the age of 2. She's been wearing vacuum prosthesis since the ago of 8. I agree with the other two posters, New Freedom is our favorite. I love their product and our rep is such a wonderful person who still cares very much for those with AA.

I am talking to someone about a Freedom Hair, I am very nervous about the cost. I have prayed about this it is for my son. I hope you find something you love.
100% freedom wig of new zealand. i live in the US, and their local rep (karen-she's fabulous) took a computer scan of my head so it fits perfectly. and the vacuum hair piece is also made of a 'breathable' material so it helps w/ sweating, etc... i couldn't recommend this product any more.
Justine,
I am a hair stylist, cutting and styling wig, vacuums and Grippers. One thing I have noticed as a stylist is that when shampooing and conditioning not apply the directly to the scalp area of the vacuum piece or any hair piece. By doing this it may soften the hair over time and it will loosen the hair and it come out. Breakage can be caused if the hair id parted to far over from where the hair has been implanted. For Dull hair, If you don't get the shampoo and conditioner rinsed good this can cause dulness. All hair pieces need extra rinsing. I also found that www.DermOrganic.com products work well with all hair pieces. There is an oil that is added to the ends the will wake up your hair

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your replies!
This piece I have now is a Freedom piece. I did a lot of research before I got this one and found them to be the best. Comfort definitely is, I’ve been so pleased with that! The amount of hair loss was just a bit disappointing (and surprising) to me. Hopefully it was just something with this one..
Thanks again for all your help and support!
Justine
Hi

I would really like you to pop back to your IA to see if this can be repaired and to work out if you can be helped in anyway.

Take care

Rosy
Thanks Rosy, I will. I have been meaning to call her, just wanted to see what suggestions others might have first. She was great in the beginning so I'm sure she will be able to help. Thanks!
are you sleeping in it? they told me that if you sleep in them the hair bends and cracks a lot sooner . just a thought...
I heard that too but no, I don’t sleep in it.. maybe only have a handful of times. I also don’t wear it full day, normally by 4pm I change into an older piece for when I’m going to the gym and horseback riding. I can’t seem to pinpoint why what has happened with it has happened..
