Just wanted to post a few things that definitely seem to be helping. I have been suffering for years with itching scalp only to be told it was dermatitis. My hair line was thinning in the area where there is itching only to be told, oh it's androgenic alopecia. I asked the Dermatologist if this was normally itchy and was told, oh it must also be dermatitis. After years of suffering and trying every shampoo I could find I finally went to a Dermatologist whom I insisted on a biopsy and was diagnosed with lichen planopilaris. Of course the next thing that was offered was cortisone shots, steroid ointments, etc. It was under control for about six months after the last round of cortisone shots but once again recently reared its ugly head itching/burning causing some scarring. I have researched and researched, trying to find natural help for this condition and I have finally found relief. I am still using clobetasol about 3x a week but that would only help momentarily. Now I am taking: MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) 3000 mg a day; Propolis 500mg; Biotin 1 mg; B-Complex (Solgar brand); Kyolic (aged garlic extract) and Fish Oil 2000 mg, Acidophillus with Bifidus. I've also been using Remaxx hair kit system and a laser comb. All I can say is that the itching/burning/scarring has stopped. The hair kit is doing wonders as I have some frontal fibrosing and even my husband said it looks as though it is much fuller and feels much fuller. Being that this is an inflammatory disease I have tried to read about natural inflammatories and all I can say is that something is working. I feel as though my scalp is starting to feel normal again. I don't know if this info will help anyone but I sure hope it will. I will post again on my progress. I really felt like I was at the end of my rope as this itching/burning is enough to drive you crazy. For the first time in twenty years of trying to find answers I can only hope that my body will continue to respond to whatever is working. Prayers for all of you suffering with alopecia.

I hear you Judith. It's a shame the hoops we must jump through just to get someone to listen. Glad to see you've found a regimen that is working for you. I always prefer more holistic methods for medical treatments if I can get away with it.

I was also diagnosed with lichen planopilaris. I got the itching under control with Olux (same ingredient as Clobetasol). The strangest thing though, since I've shaved, I've had zero itching. None. Haven't used any Olux since at least January. Go figure.
Angie,
Good to hear that you are no longer suffering with itching!!! People do not understand when you try to explain about the itching/burning, etc. They just think it's just a simple itch like you would have from dandruff or something. No clue how relentless this disease can be and how you suffer!! May we both have continued peace!! Take care!

Hi Girls,

I am new on this site and Judith I found it thanks to this post when I 'googled' controlling Lichen Planopilaris- thank you sooo soooo much!

I have recently been diagnosed yet with LP and I am so scared. I had really long, thick, healthy hair which is now slowly going. Its so upsetting, sometimes I'm fine with it and other times I just sit and cry. I loved the list of supplements you have mentioned Judith and I am going down to the local health shop at lunch to get them all. Do they help with both the itching and hair loss? I just want to keep that at a minimum. I don't want to lose more hair.

Angie I am using 'Dermavate' which has Clobetasol in too. I think its helping! Good to know that the itching can be controlled.

What do you girls think about shampoo? Do you think it makes a difference? I've been using Ginger Shampoo from the Body Shop I'm unsure how much its helping- I think its got the burning down a little as with other shampoos the burning was bad.

Also I have been applying and massing oil into my scalp, leaving it in over night or at least eight hours in the day and washing it out the next day or in the evening. I warn you both that this makes the hair very very greasy but we're only required to do it once a week and once its washed out the hair is fine. I am of Indian origin and my mother, aunts, grandmothers all do it and highly recommend it for a healthy scalp and beautiful hair- some men also do it too. Its also a great way to unwind and relax. I always get great sleep after doing this.

My biggest concern is that I just want to maintain the few hairs I have left. My hair has always been my pride and joy so this is killing me I'm willing to try ANYTHING that will keep this thing at bay and let me retain my hair.

Do you girls have any other suggestions?

Sorry for all the questions but there is not much info out there about this stupid disease.

Hope we all feel better soon.

Thanks for info
