My daughter is 20 years old and was just diagnosed. Are there tests they should perform? The doctor just looked at it diagnosed her and gave her some cortisone shots and a topical. Do they test for other things that might be causing this? I want to make sure she has the best care any advice?

You may want to take a look at this that talks about tests: http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/hair-lo.... The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) also has info and resources on their website. A second opinion from another doctor is another option to confirm the diagnosis and explore treatment options.
