It's Hair Loss Support At Its Best™
Hello everybody
My name is Michaela, am from Romania and three years ago I started loosing hair but I have never thoght that I'm going to reach this point where I need to wear a wig.So, here I am now...........! So, for the last two weeks I have been doing lots of searching on the internet trying to figure out the best wigs on the market: the most secure, undetectable and natural looking. My searching led me to freedom wig( from New Zeeland) or vacuum wigs from Peggy Knight. If someone could tell me the difference between the two I would really apprecite, and also the cost for these two wigs.
But, I understood that these wigs takes time to be made, and, till I'll decide which one of these worth the money I need to concentrate on what we have avaibile on the market.I am interested in a type of wig that is secure, undetectable and natural looking. Here in Romania we don't have many stores that sell wigs,anyway...., there is one store which promotes most Raquel Welch wigs. Do you know anything about these wigs?...esspecially the Victory model? Could you , please, help me out with some informations?!
This week I'm going to the store to buy a wig and I would like to know what else should I buy, exept from the wig...............what adhesive, or tape , or anything else I could need
These are the characteristics: I need from the wig: to be able to secure it very well, and to be able to take it off easily every night
To be undetectable and natural looking
I have one more question :I've seen lots of discussion about lace wigs, or smart lace wigs...I have no idea what this means, but I would like to know :are these the only wigs that can be glued or taped or any wig acctuially can be secured with tapes and glues.
Thank you and I really appreciate your help and support
With consideration
Mihaela

Permalink Reply by Rose - shaving and wigging on February 9, 2012 at 10:14am I had typed a long reply, but it got lost, so here it is in short: there are many hair types and cap types available depending on the hair you have/want, if you wear hair underneath or not, and how you want to secure the wig. I would visit the salon and gather as much information as possible, as they can tailor the info to your needs and show you examples of hair and cap types. Raquel Welch human hair wigs are not of good quality, the hair is dry and stiff after one washing. There is far better quality available at the same price. Check wigs.com for videos of Raquel Welch styles that show the inside of the cap as well. Good luck on your visit!!
Permalink Reply by Michaela on February 10, 2012 at 1:55pm Thank you so much for your reply...I really appreciate it, esspecially now when I feel so lost and so confused. Today I've been to the wig store and I came back even more confused and dissapointed. The lady that worked there didn't know to give me the informations I needed.I've seen there lace front wigs which most women reccomend, but for me they seem so fragile . I was wondering how much will they last (lace front wigs)if someone wants to glue them and put secure tape around every day and take them off in the evening, and than again secure them in the morning with glue and tape. I would really like to know so I would be able to make a decision. In Romania lace front wigs (with natural hair, monofilament and hand tied) are really expensive and I would like to know if is worth the money esspecially when they have only one month warranty.
I appreciate all your replies
Permalink Reply by Rose - shaving and wigging on February 10, 2012 at 2:30pm How disappointing that you didn't get any information at the salon :( I've often been treated rudely in salons, but at least I always got new ideas. Removing daily takes a toll on lace wigs. You are right that they are very fragile. I think 3 months is the average time a lace wig lasts with daily wear. You could try adhering with Got2Be Glued Spiking Glue. It is very strong hair gel and it washes off with water. It will be less harmful for the lace. There is also a method of sewing an elastic in the inside of the cap that will hold the cap together for extra security. It seems possible to keep it on without adhering. Youtube has videos on how to do this.
One month warranty doesn't make much sense for a wig. If the hair has been treated with silicone it can last just a month before becoming dry and stiff. Maybe you can order a lace wig from China first. They are a lot cheaper there. It's a bit hit and miss in quality, but people on here will hopefully chime in with the vendors they like. Blackhairmedia also has lots of information about lace wigs and Chinese vendors.

Permalink Reply by Rose - shaving and wigging on February 10, 2012 at 2:55pm You're welcome, I am also in Europe and once I discovered the US wig market and sources of information everything became easier. Even the Chinese vendors are mostly discusses on American sites. I realised that you were talking about lace front wigs like the Raquel Welch wigs. These come with elastic in the back. The elastic band method is for full lace wigs without monotop. Chinese vendors also sell lace front wigs.
www.youtube.com has videos on many brands of lace front wigs. The site has a search bar where you can enter terms like "lace front" "elastic band method" and so on.

If you would like to tell me if wigs must be washed with special shampoos and special balm......or can be washed with any type of shampoo....I have so much more questions....but i'LL take it step by step..if you don't mind
Permalink Reply by Rose - shaving and wigging on February 14, 2012 at 10:37am Hi Michaela, mild shampoos and conditioners for treated hair (permed, dyed) are nice for human hair wigs. The wig can be soaked in a basin of water with a teaspoon of shampoo. Swish around gently, rinse well. I apply conditioner directly on the lower part of the hair and leave it on for 30 minutes at least. Others dilute the conditioner like the shampoo and let the wig soak for a bit. Then rinse, and blot the water out in a towel. Air dry on a stand - this can be a vase if you don't have a wig stand.
Stella is not on very much, but you will definitely find others who wear human hair. Did you join all the wig groups on here? There are quite a few and all contain lots of advice about wig care and where to buy, and what to buy.
