Hi Natalie,
Hello from another New Zealander :) Am in Palmerston North a way away from you. Have had Alopecia for a couple of years. Sometimes I'm okay with it but other times it's a struggle - especially now my eyebrows seem to be disappearing too!

Hey Natalie
Sorry I havent posted you a message sooner! Your hair looks great is it a freedom hair piece? I just got one a few weeks ago and I love it! I was just in Auckland last weekend getting it cut and styled (and shopping of course). Its nice to see some more New Zealanders on this site. *Kate

Hi Nat

My name is Stacey and i'm new to the world of AA. I've only had it since April of this year and it's been taking a really big toll on my personal life and just trying to live each day as if I had hair...But how are you??? I see you live in South Auckland, so do I in the very noted lil suburb Otara. I would love to meet with you and see how you've coped with this life changing experience.
Give me a hit, when ever...God bless

Hi natalie
you look great in a wig. Your photo with no hair is so similar to my head. I have been shaving it off on the top as I am mostly bald on the back of my head It certainly helps to chat with others who have alopecia. I am from Christchurch and have only had alopecia for 3 months

Hi Natalie from another Kiwi (in Cental Otago)
Hope things are getting better for you. I have been AU for many years and have found that joining wonderful groups like this one and meeting others that are going through the same thing helps alot. Take care

hi Natalie - I was looking for other NZers and found you. I am 38 and live in Auckland too. I have had AU for 8 years now, so really understand what you are going through at losing your hair when you are older.I have never actually met anyone with AU, and only found this site by accident, but it is nice to see other people who look like we do. If you want to chat let me know, we could even catch up....Kath

Hi Natalie,
I know it can be a big struggle. I have had AA for nearly 30 years! I wrote a book (the kind of book I wish I had when I first got this!), called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It's really good -- full of lots of good info and inspiration. Go to my page to find out more...take care!

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. In Canada most insurance companies don't cover wigs and yes, they are expensive. Are you aware of the Ascot Fund the NAAF has? Most places only have wig funds for kids but they include adults too. Many places online are okay to buy wigs from, just make sure they have a good return or exchange policy before you sign up incase you don't like it when it comes. The NAAF also has information you can request your doctor to get about mental health and alopecia. Most doctors don't understand the full impact that alopecia can have on ones life. If there is an alopecia support group close to where you live you may find that beneficial as well to know that you are not alone and learn how to cope with it better. I do hope your luck will turn soon and wish you the best!

You came to the right place to learn how to deal with alopecia. If you ever need to talk, I've had alopecia for 30 years and I'm online quite a bit. Time heals all wounds, keep your chin up kiddo - BIG HUGS!!!
