Hi, I'm pretty new here. I saw you are from new orleans. I'm from shreveport. I was also wondering if that is your real hair in the pic.? If it is a wig it looks good. Where did you get it? I don't have a clue where to get one at. There are so many places online. Thankyou, Erin!!

What type of wig do you wear? Is it comfortable?

No, I haven't shaved my head yet, but I cannot wait! I'm going to order a full lace wig in the next few days and then go in to a Peggy Knight representative for the shave, lace wig, and then a molding for my vacuum wig. I'm just excited to start fresh and not have to worry about hiding my impossible spots anymore and start living normal again! You are beautiful and I'm sure that you will make the choice that is best for you, hair or no hair. But keep me updated either way- we can hopefully help each other out! I'm really glad that I found this site and am able to talk to people who are going through the same thing as me :)
Cheers,
Natalie

ErinMichele,
You are beautiful. Hang in there. I have AA and my son has AU. He and I got it at the same time. But within 4 months he lost all of his and I'm dealing with patches that grow back then start somewhere else. I'm hoping to continue the same way with a patch growing back before another one occurs. I use something called xfusion which is sold only at some salons. Your hairdresser can order it for you. It's a powder you sprinkle on the patches. Its great stuff. Check it on the website for more info. I tried to order it from the website and found they only sell to salons. When are you getting married? Take care...

Hey ErinMichele!

Sorry about your recent diagnosis! I remember when my came back my senior year in high school, I thought my world was about to end! But I promise either way, you'll get through it, and even though hair pieces will never replace your real hair, there are some out there that aren't half bad! I'll pray that your hair stays, and the hair you've lost grows back! Try not to stress over it, I feel that's the BEST medicine! Next time I go in, which should be within the next two weeks, I'll ask the name of my hair piece. I've been going to the same guy for 6 years, since my alopecia came back, and I don't really ask any have to ask questions anymore, because we've seemed to work through all the kinks. But I'll be sure to find out for you. My hair piece is on a skin like base, though. So the part looks pretty natural. It's adhesived to my head. I never take it off. Which works for me, because I'm just not to that point where I can be without a hair piece. It's so secure, I never have to worry that it'll come off, which I like! Also, I get a new piece each month. This way I'm able to get thinner pieces, which I think helps with the realness look, too. I take a shower with it on, blow dry, straighten, etc. I'm always self conscious, of course, but people always tell me they'd never know...Let me know if you have any other questions about anything. This site is great for those things. I wish I had this when I started losing my hair! Take care! -Brittney

Hello and welcome, Erin!
I know how hard it can be. I have had alopecia for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It might make you feel better. You can find out more on my page -- and let me know if there's anything else I can do!
